Re: Turkish Delight

I read a post a while ago pointing out how sugar was rationed in WWII and that likely one of the reasons Edmund jumped at eating Turkish Delight was because he hadn't had sugar in a really long time. Like if I was banned from eating chocolate for a year or two and someone offered me a bar (albeit at...

Re: What have you been watching?

It's a kid's show, so it's PG (there's some science/magic stuff that is a little weird if you think about it, but it's not really any different from RotG or similar movies), it's about space and giant robot cats, the characterization and development and writing is phenomenal and I am way more invest...

Re: What have you been watching?

So my cousins got me to watch Voltron: Legendary Defender last year. It's on Netflix and it's my new favourite show. Does anyone else watch it?

Re: What have you been watching?

Whoah, Land Before Time. That's something I haven't heard of in ages.

I've been binge-watching Merlin...I'm almost done season 3. It's definitely well-done, but a little odd. I'm not exactly sure what my feelings about it are yet.
(Also, I keep seeing Bradley James as Peter. Every time.)

Re: Inconsistency?

If my memory serves me correctly, doesn't LB mention that the "unridden beasts" (centaurs, unicorns, etc.) may be ridden when the need is imminent? In LWW, the foremost need was to get everyone out of the castle as quickly as possible, which would have been very challenging with smaller an...

Re: What readest thou?

I found a copy of Avalon by Stephen R. Lawhead (!!!!!!!!!!!). I devoured it and loved it. It's been a few years since I've read the rest of the series, though, so I'm planning on starting Taliesin soon. @anyone wondering about the series - it's a Celtic twist on the legend of King Arthur. The series...

Re: *whispers* Shakespeare

"Exit, pursued by a bear." xD I went to see The Winter's Tale performed as a field trip for my drama class. All of my peers were incredibly disappointed that they didn't actually show the bear, they just had the guy run offstage screaming with bear noises in the background.

Re: *whispers* Shakespeare

The biggest drawback of reading Shakespeare is the format - Shakespearean English can be very difficult to understand, especially if you're not familiar with it at all. If you're looking for (more) classic Shakespeare, Macbeth is super engaging. It is a tragedy, though, and supernatural occurrences ...
