@Marmota: That /is/ an idea! I wonder, now, if the trees still existed...

I fancy if there was a particular tree the coin was based on, it would be the tree of protection that Digory planted, but I do like the idea of them considering there to be a connection between precious metals and trees because of the silver and gold trees. And that's true Hermit about the Lone Islands using Calormene currency, at least during the time they had close trade relations with Calormen. In VDT it's in use in the market place. I once had a go at making some Narnian coins out of sculpey. I had some large copper looking coins with crescent moons on them for Calormene crescents and was working on Gold coins with Aslan's face, silver coins with trees, and smaller copper coins with a leaf to show that it was like a part of a "tree".

Those sound really cool, Swanwhite! And that's an interesting idea about there being "leaves" as well as "trees". I like that. :)

I like that, too! I think it's entering my headcanon. :-)

Random idea: what it the Tree coins were wooden? Like wooden coins they give out at Vacation Bible School.

That might work. But it would have to be terribly hard wood to last the time between Restimar's death and the Dawn Treader's landing at Deathwater and still be recognizable as coins.

Wait, is the "Lions are gold and Trees are silver" completely fanon? Hmmm...

I still think Kristi's coin sort game is the best.

@marmota: I think it is. It's always been how I imagined it, but I don't think Lewis ever said.
