The coins might be for the tree of protection rather than the two trees of silver and gold, then.

In the movies they've used replicas of various old coins to represent Narnian currency, including Athenian Owls. I think one of our members has a couple of the coin props. They were mostly used in VDT I believe, where the slave market made currency necessary, but there weren't going to be any closeups on the coins.

Well, except that the Tree of Protection is also only brought up in MN. So we're left with a) Lewis was already playing with those ideas at the time of writing VDT (not that unlikely, actually, considering my own creative processes...); b) the name of Trees for the coins was for another reason entirely, maybe simply because he liked trees.

It is kind of fun. (Hoping to stay non-addicted, in some libraries extensive use of that mght imply a ticket out in favour of "more intelligent" uses of internet). But it is still kind of fun.
