Fan Fiction recommendations

Post by Ajnos » Sun Aug 25, 2013 7:38 pm

Although the main purpose of this section is to share your own new stuff or works-in-progress, I thought it might be nice to have a thread where you can recommend some of your favourite Narnian fanfic authors and pieces.

Remember, should you want to post links, anyone lower than knight must have the links approved and only works within TLC guidelines should be recommended/discussed.

Oooh! I've got a recommendation -- Andi Horton. She's a Writer who has written many good pieces based on the Golden Age in Narnia. She captures Lewis' style well, keeps the Pevensie's VERY believable, and has some amazing plots.

Some of the stories I'd recommend of hers most are as follows:

1. A Sea of Golden Sand, a story about Susan's experience in Tashbaan with Rabadash. It's neat to see the story from the Narnians' view point.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2889622/1/A ... olden-Sand

2. Becoming Brothers, a story about Cor and Corin and how they got to know one another and grow closer, etc.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4858538/1/Becoming-Brothers

3. Kingdoms Come, about how the Pevensie's began to repopulate Narnia with some humans that fled, and how they established connections in Archenland.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3819590/1/Kingdoms-Come

4. Someone Else's Story, an Aravis and Cor mystery that I can't tell you anything about without giving away the plot.

I recommend WillowDryad's fanfics. She's a fantasic author (and woe to the reader who follows one of her stories-in-progress 'cause she's got the most terrifying cliffhangers ever!). I will only be posting some of her K and K+ stories here as the site rules stipulate.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8689772/1/The-Pouncepaws - The Pevensies meet four Kittens named after them in a little story both cute and humorous.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9393248/1/What-s-in-a-Name - Peter and Edmund have a (crazy-funny) discussion about names.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8050685/1/Poppy - Find out just what a cutsie little bunny can do to Peter, Edmund, and Oreius in this extremely fluffy fic.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7743659/1/W ... Comes-Back - An OC one-shot, LB, Peter/OC (but not all that romantic)
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7702536/1/Socks - Susan is constantly knitting socks for Peter and Edmund, but they always end up in poor condition. What on earth are those two up to? (humour)
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7645411/1/Bindings - Peter wakes up unable to move. (fluff)
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7466186/1/Identity - Susan post-LB one-shot.

I recommend Engee's stories! Here are some of my favorites:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7379819/1/T ... -Would-Say
"Susan, you can't do this!" Peter implored. "You can't abandon Narnia!" "I'm not abandoning anyone!" Susan snapped back. "There isn't anyone to abandon. It doesn't even exist! When are you going to grow up, Peter Pevensie?" Peter's face went white.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7951289/1/C ... dy-Hear-Me
Susan wonders if anyone can hear her cries as she drifts away from her faith. But she becomes confused when she sees Jill and Eustace returning from their adventures in 'The Silver Chair' and Susan thinks she sees Aslan and Caspian as well. Not Suspian

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7335946/1/Just-Believe
"Narnia is real. Have you forgotten about Aslan, Susan?" Edmund implored. "Aslan?" Susan scoffed. She'd never believe that silly fairytale. "Please Susan, we wouldn't lie about this," Lucy begged. "You have to just believe!" Peter urged.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8558014/1/F ... s-of-Glory
He was tormented by his struggle to hold on to his fragments of glory; to hold on to what he could not be; what he would never be again.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8743923/1/Born-For-This
When their siblings are torn away, Edmund and Susan must find a way to defend their country at all costs against the greedy Telmarines. Succeed or fail, they must trust that Aslan has a reason for it all. Because long before their hearts could run the risk, they were born for this. Edmund & Susan sibling fic. End of the Golden Age AU

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7780423/1/T ... Paravelgov
What if Narnia had internet? What if every character had email? What would they say and to whom would they write? What kind of pranks, love letters, live chats, war threats and virus' would occur? Is someone out to get the quick typing kings and queens?

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9161117/1/Caspy-s-Dream-Day
Fed up with two of her most annoying suitors Caspy the Fake and Prince Rabadash of Calormen, Susan the "Gentle" decides to take matters into her own hands on April 1st. Meanwhile, Edmund is hiding from Peter due to a prank he pulled on the High King. Companion piece to "Their Majesties at CairParavel. gov".

*thinks that's probably enough* But, seriously, all of hers are great!

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6652327/1/From-Pole-to-Pole
From Pole to Pole -- Or, how discussing the wonders of creation with a Mouse makes round worlds sound considerably less boring. K.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8131577/1/P ... -Solutions
Stargate: SG1 crossover. A rather nontraditional explanation of why Susan became reluctant to speak of Narnia. K.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8510078/1/T ... nderstorms
Humorous AU romance. K.

And I would also like to recommend Touch The Sky with Two Arms, by Ilysia. I'm not linking it here, because it's officially rated T, but I'm not sure why unless the author was just playing it really safe. It's a DW/Narnia crossover with, to my mind, very fun characterization and descriptions. Susan & Doctor. There is implied fighting, cursing, and flirting (none of the above actually portrayed in play-by-play), a character is briefly drugged, another character might be nude in one scene depending on how you interpret the wording but it's not sexualised, and two characters have some understandable angst because of trouble in the past. That's it as far as I can tell on the content issues, really.

All of these are one-shots.

I recommend King Caspian the Seafarer's stories. They're AMAZING!
I absolutely loved "Miscreants and Murderers". It was a fantastic thriller/mystery told in Edmund's point of view during the Golden Age. I loved the brotherly relationship between young Corin and Edmund.
Another story that I think is my favorite is "Left Behind". It was about what was happening in England during the events of The Last Battle. It was so cool to see the interactions between the Friends of Narnia. And in the last few chapters, after Susan is left alone, it focuses more on her and it had a magnificent ending.
My most favorite one-shot of all time is "On Mothers, Marshwiggles, and Burnt Cookies". The Pevensies and Jill come over to Eustace's house for dinner. I laughed so hard I could not breathe. It's just perfection.
All of King Caspian's stories are very in character and I never get bored with them!I HIGHLY recommend checking them out!

Can I just put in a plug for JealousOfTheMoon's Canon Keepers series? They're brilliant and I love reading them so much. There's about 8 or 10 of them (I think) on ff.net.

I put my full support this suggestion. Just about anything by Jealous is good.

Oh, oh, oh, that must be the story I got the idea from!
I don't have time to re-read it now, but now that I know, I can return to it at a more opportune time, and more importantly, credit it in the notes to my own story! Thank you!

I just read a fic that touched me big time. It's a beautiful, beautiful piece and crafted so nicely. It's called "In All Things" by meldahlie. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11877562/1/ (FanFiction.net is not affiliated with TLC; click at your own risk.)
