The Last Battle (A Poem)

Post by elanorelle » Mon Aug 26, 2013 6:13 pm

The Last Battle

The sun was set
The bonfire danced
Evil loomed, a threat
Evil troops advanced

The battle raged on
The enemy stronger
Would it last till the dawn?
Would it go ever longer?

The stable drew near
The door opened black
No chance to have fear
No chance to fall back

The Narnians dying
The Calormenes leading
No time to be crying
No time to be pleading

The worst seemed behind
The worst seemed ahead
No answer to find
No words to be said

The doom growing nigh
The door gaping wide
One by one bade goodbye
One by one forced inside

The stable was bright
The dirt washed away
Never another cruel night
Never another bad day

For the war was now finished
The judgment attended
Narnia diminished
Narnia ended.

Ooh; I like this Elanor. I always appreciate formal poetic structures, and yours is really interesting (abab with repeated or partly repeated first words). Did you make up the structure yourself or base it on an existing form?

Well thank you Ajjie. :D

Um, I think I made up the structure. The repeating of the words was actually an accident at first. I think the first few stanzas I had written repeated words so I just decided to do it for the entire poem so it wouldn't look out of place. :)
