If I remember right Ajnos you put a new torch that Digory (the Prosfesseur) had given him to replace the old one. I imagined she was just careful with the batteries.

@Swan, so if the torch-tree comes with a switch, it can be turned off and on?

Yes, I suppose so!
Perhaps it also switches itself off an on according to the time of day.
