Space Trilogy

I figured that if I keep asking questions about the trilogy in the "What readest thou?" thread, I'll just bog it down. So I'm starting a new thread for it. Hope that's all right!

So, what do you think Ransom's bleeding heel supposed to symbolize? Genesis 3:15 and the "You will bruise His heel"?

Also, I'm on That Hideous Strength, and I find I'd enjoy it more if Devine/Feverstone (and his cohorts) didn't have such dirty mouths! That drives me crazy! Anyone else?

Yeeeeeeeeah, when I read that, I was like, "Okaaaaaaay, I thought this book was for kids....." O.O

I guess, at the whatchamacallit, he /did/ say it was an adult fairy tale or something like that.

Ohhhh, I love the Space Trilogy! I only read it twice, though...
But about the language...um, yeah. Every time my youngest brother walked past as I was reading I wondered if I should close the book just in case he looked over my shoulder. :P

The Space Trilogy is not for kids, if only for the stuff that happens toward the end of THS....

Anyway, to answer your question, Jaygee, I do think there is a connection between Ransom's heel and that verse in Genesis. Considering how Perelandra is similar in a number of ways to the Creation story.

I was less concerned about their dirty language than about the dirty things they were conveying in it.

I suppose people like that are not very likeable in real life either.

That said, I am less used to using it than to hearing it.

You mean the backflip blurb?

I recently finished Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra. The the climactic struggle and the wound on Ransom's heel did most certainly remind me of Genesis 3:15. The red petals covering Ransom -- this imagery also reminded me of salvation imagery, although I can't propose a definitive verse to go with it.

I look forward to starting That Hideous Strength soon.

THS is riveting in its own, interesting way. Even though I was pretty much completely lost the first time I read it, I couldn't put it down. :D
