Sledding (a poem)

Up, up, up the hill,
Dragging my sled behind me.
A cousin waiting, for we will
go down together. He
slides first on a sled
of orange. Flying, he reaches
the bottom. I dread
my turn. The plastic screeches
as I sit. The rope firmly in my
hand, I push off. The cold wind
bites at my cheeks. I fly by
a fence. I grin
as I go faster. I lean left
and almost fall out. When
I stop, I slowly heft
myself up. “Let’s do it again!”
