*pops in*

Ajjie is still alive and...graduating from her doctorate in a month's time

Things are a bit odd at the moment as I've been lecturing part time (only once a week) this term and I'm almost done (got some marking of tests to do next week). In the meantime, I've been planning my trip to the US at the end of April (going to a friend's wedding). And also waiting to see if I can get a permanent lecturing job at my uni.

I watched the animated Lord of the Rings before the live action ones came out. But only part 1 so the ending was really abrupt. We watched it in Grade 8 after reading the Hobbit (for some reason we had access to part 1 of LotR and not the animated Hobbit). This was mid 2001, so not that long before the first movie but you can imagine the effect finally seeing the live action FotR had on me 6 months later. (For reference I had read 2/3 of LotR two years previously).

Congrats on your upcoming graduation, Ajjie!

Hop boy, I can just imagine the jump it was from animated LotR to the live-action. Especially in such a short amount of time.

Hey everyone! It's been forever!!! I just wanted to pop in and say hey. Life is crazy busy for me now - at the end of July my sister and I moved an hour and a half away from home and I'm now attending college, which is a huge change for me. I am also continuing to work while I'm in school, so that is a challenge. I am studying American Sign Language & Interpreting, if that is of interest to anyone. :) Anyway, I can't promise I'll be around much, but I just wanted to say hello! I hope everyone is well. :)

Shi! It’s been ages! Glad you’re doing well! And ASL and the interpretation thereof is of interest to me. I know the alphabet and a few words, so the two times I’ve talked with deaf people has been very, very slow....

Ooh, ASL! I studied it very briefly a few years ago and am thinking of picking it up again, though I'm not sure where or how to study it...

@Ariel: Fingerspelling is a life saver if you don’t know the words, but I am not very fast at it so I completely understand! Sometimes I have to ask people to sign slower. :) I’m sure it’ll come with practice though.

@Hobbit: im pretty sure you can find some free stuff online! Also community colleges sometimes have ASL courses. There are also some apps for iPhone (I’m not sure about other phones). :)
