Yeah, along with a lot of others including: The Sword in the Stone, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin (prequel). Is it just me, or is this getting a bit out of hand? :P

I think both have their share of recognizable actors which makes me wonder how well each of them will do, especially when released within a year of each other.

I'm pretty excited about Beauty and the Beast!
Why, I wonder, are there two Jungle Books being made, and why so close together?
Winnie the Pooh? How do you make that live action?

It doesn't make much sense that there would be two, but they'll be different. From what I've gathered Disney's will be mostly based on the Disney animated film and Serkis' on the book by Kipling.

@Ela: *groans* Why? Just why? And who wants Pinnochio?! Sword in the Stone, Aladdin, and Little Mermaid, I can see, but Pinnochio and Dumbo?!

@Shi: I'm really hoping Beauty and the Beast is good. I love the animated one to pieces and wouldn't want this to ruin the tale, especially as Cinderella didn't /really/ impress. But then, BatB has story advantage.

I wonder if Jungle Book has just entered public domain? That's why we saw a sudden plethora of Sherlock stuff all at the same time a few years ago (The new movies, BBC and Elementary).

@Ajnos: Hmm, maybe. That would make sense.

@Ella: Ah, I see. Well at least they'll be different.

@Ariel: I love Beauty and the Beast as well, so yeah, I'm excited! I didn't like Cinderella the animated film, and I thought the live action one was a vast improvement. It was much better than I was expecting it to be. But I hope they do justice to Beauty and the Beast, cause that's my favorite of the princess movies.

@Ajjie: That does seem to be a good explanation.

@Shi: Animated Cinderella was fine, but she didn't really do anything (not that she did in the fairytale), so... seeing live-action Cinderella have conflicts was definitely welcome.

Speaking of Cinderellas who have conflicts, someone /really/ needs to try Ella Enchanted again. The movie we've got now does not do the book any justice.

Looks as if Jungle Book /is/ in the public domain but I don't know how long it has been.

The animated Cinderella isn't my cup of tea and I haven't watched it in a long time but Beauty and the Beast is something I don't want to see butchered. Even if it is, we'll still have the animated version. :)
I have heard rather positive reviews of the new Cinderella and I will be watching it soon, so I guess I'll have my thoughts on that in a couple days.

@Ariel: *nods* A new version of that simply has to be made.

Agreed Ella! I would love to see Beauty and the Beast live action, so long as, as you put it, they don't butcher it! :)
I've never seen Ella Enchanted. Is it worth the watch?

@Shi: *shakes head wildly* Your time is better spent reading the book by Gail Carson Levine (and then adapting a fresh screenplay out of it ;) ). The film, in my opinion, took the real spirit out of the story and tried to compensate with a silly, cartoonish brand of humour.
