Alvin the Treacherous is one of the bad guys of the HTTYD world, both in the books and the movie/tv-verse. In the tv show, he used to be a Berkian, but he was exiled (and started up a community on Outcast Island) and he and Stoick are bitter foes. I think he was in one of the books that I read, but I don't remember what his story is there.

I *Think* he might have been in one of the TV shows I watched. We have a few on DVD. They're not as good as the movies, but they were pretty entertaining nonetheless.

So is Astrid NOT in the books?

Yeah, the TV show doesn't live up to the movies and even contradicts them, but anyway.
I'm not sure about Astrid. She wasn't in the three that I read. Maybe she's the movie version of Kamikaze? *looks at Engee for help*

Alvin the Treacherous first appears in book 2 and is Hiccup's arch enemy. The entertaining thing about Alvin is at the end of every book you think he's finally dead, but nope! He comes back again, just missing another body part. He's not really at all like the Alvin they show in the tv show. Interesting tidbit: Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) voices Alvin in the tv show.

Astrid is not in the books, and I'm pretty sure she's not supposed to be the movie version of Camicaze. They're too different. Camicaze is tiny, hyperactive, a skilled burglar (she stole Stoik's underpants off of him) and she doesn't like guys, except for Hiccup. She's also very loyal and is not romantically interested in Hiccup at all. She accompanies Hiccup on his adventures from book 3 and on. I find it interesting that according to the HTTYD wiki site, "Camicazi has an extremely rare mood dragon called Stormfly who changes color according to her mood and turns purple when she is not telling the truth, which is often." So the film writer's stole the name of Camicazi's dragon for Astrid's dragon.

(Heh, he sounds like MacGyver's arch enemy: you think he's dead, but he keeps on coming back....) Oh, yeah, I forgot Mark Hamill voiced him.

I didn't mean that Astrid was an exact copy (haha, or even a semi-copy) of Camicaze, but okay. :) I don't remember book!Stormfly... was she in book 2?

Camicazi isn't in book two, so I wouldn't imagine that book!Stormfly was introduced in book two. I don't remember exactly when Stormfly is introduced. I haven't read the books in several years.

Oh. She must have been in book three then. I know I read one book with her in it. Something about a Roman fortress.

Yup, that would be book 3. I think I read through book 4, and didn't have time with school to finish the series, but my younger siblings have read every single book and told me about them.

*Tries to not read things in this thread yet*
I finally saw the first HtTyD yesterday - I have the sequel available too and will watch it soon.

Did anyone else find it rather odd that all of the adults in the movie had Viking/Scottish accents, while the kids all had American ones?
