Ariel.of.Narnia: *walks in*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hello?
Sir-Edward: *dashes in*
Sir-Edward: Hello?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hi!!
Ariel.of.Narnia:
Sir-Edward: ....?
Ariel.of.Narnia: I was just wondering if anyone would show.
Sir-Edward: Hello?
Sir-Edward: So lonely...
Ariel.of.Narnia: I'm here, I'm here
Sir-Edward: Well yes,
Sir-Edward: But you’re a permanent fixture :P
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well, I see what you think of me.
Sir-Edward: smiley-razz
Ariel.of.Narnia: Is your brother coming tonight?
Sir-Edward: He might be along soon don't know.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Meantime, do you have anything to share?
Sir-Edward: Still working on stuff
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay
Ariel.of.Narnia: Yeah, well
Ariel.of.Narnia: So do you have enough inspiration to work on something to share tonight?
Sir-Edward: Sure, why not?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay
Ariel.of.Narnia: So should we try to finish what we're working on in the next... 15 minutes?
Ariel.of.Narnia: o...kay
Ariel.of.Narnia: I'll try. But I'll probably fail. :P
Sir-Edward: Well I mean for me
Ariel.of.Narnia: :P
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well, then.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ready, set
Ariel.of.Narnia: Go!
Sir-Edward: Wait wait wait!
Ariel.of.Narnia: What what what?
Ariel.of.Narnia: o.o
Sir-Edward: What's the prompt?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh!
Ariel.of.Narnia: You want a prompt!
Sir-Edward: Isn't that the idea?
Ariel.of.Narnia: I thought you were going to finish something you were already working on.
Ariel.of.Narnia: But I have a few prompts lined up
Ariel.of.Narnia: How about "Your character's face appears on the evening news. Write a short story about why."
Sir-Edward: o..keey
Ariel.of.Narnia: I could give you another if you don't like that one
Sir-Edward: I'll hear 'um ALL!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh boy, okay
Coromir: EDDIE
Coromir: ARIEL
Coromir: I LOVE COW TAILS
Ariel.of.Narnia: O_O
Sir-Edward: ???
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hi, Cor
Coromir: COW TAILS ARE AMAZING
Sir-Edward: Good
Coromir: HI!
Ariel.of.Narnia: @ Ed:
Write a scene in which the protagonist is wrongly accused of conspiring to cause a big accident.
Write from this quote from Claude Levi-Strauss: "I am the place in which something has occurred."
Pick an ordinary object. Make it someone's obsession. Write a story about the obsession.
Write about a man who's not afraid to get involved, an abandoned warehouse, and deception.
Write about one of Lasaraleen's "mad jokes".
Write about a conversation that your character wasn't supposed to overhear.
First-liner: "Everyone whispered about __________, but no one had the courage to talk to him/her."
First-liner: "My mother broke every plate in the house that day."
Your character's face appears on the evening news. Write a short story about why.
Write a story in which a child's very small action has a consequence, good or bad.
Coromir: I WILL TRY TO BE QUIET AND SIT IN THE CORNER
Sir-Edward: GOOD!!!!!
Ariel.of.Narnia: (as Cor types in all-caps. :P )
Coromir: smiley-razz
Coromir: Sorry, Ed!
Sir-Edward: lol
Ariel.of.Narnia: Wanna try a prompt, cor? I just gave Ed a bunch of options
Coromir: What’s that?
Ariel.of.Narnia: A prompt is a starting idea for a story to write
Coromir: Sure!
Sir-Edward: I got one! How about a title?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Cool. Ed, you say you have a prompt?
Sir-Edward: A title of a book and then you try to write the book based on the title...kinda backwards isn't it?
Sir-Edward: Like: "the mystery of the ashen grove"
Sir-Edward: Or something like that
Ariel.of.Narnia: I'll let you two duke out those details. I'll be trying to finish up my story, heehee
Sir-Edward: Cheater!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hey, I already had my own prompt.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Unless you come up with one I simply can't resist.
Sir-Edward: "the secret of the ashen grove" sound cool at least
Sir-Edward: Or "the incident at half-past two
Ariel.of.Narnia: Thoughts, Cor?
Coromir: For what?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ed is suggesting a title for us to write a story upon
Ariel.of.Narnia: Like, you try to write a story that would fit the title
Sir-Edward: Indeed.
Ariel.of.Narnia: If you have other ideas too, Cor, feel free to toss 'em our way too.
Sir-Edward: "last train to shadow lake"?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oooooooh
Ariel.of.Narnia: Dunno why I like that one so much
Ariel.of.Narnia: But I do
Sir-Edward: Ditto
Ariel.of.Narnia: Cor?
Coromir: Ooh, that one is cool
Coromir: It's kinda creepy
Ariel.of.Narnia: All in favour?
Coromir: Aye!
Sir-Edward: Aye!!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Aye!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Sweet
Ariel.of.Narnia: Now, if I can figure out why someone's taking the last train to shadow lake....
Sir-Edward: *gets the gears spinning*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay, do we have a time limit on this?
Ariel.of.Narnia: *still hasn't figured out what she's writing*
Sir-Edward: Fifteen minutes
Sir-Edward: Me either but it's going to sound cool!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Haha
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay, well, we'll start the timer...
Ariel.of.Narnia: Now!
Coromir: *waits because I saw that 5 minutes late*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Go ahead and use that 5 minute head start, Cor! Chances are I'll take longer than 15... it's a curse
Ariel.of.Narnia: *only just started... -_- *
Ariel.of.Narnia: The fifteen minutes is nearly at its end. How are you guys doing?
Ariel.of.Narnia: *now that she's started, she's only now figured out where this is going*
Sir-Edward: Done
Ariel.of.Narnia: Good! How about you, Cor?
Sir-Edward: Cor?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Cooooor?
Sir-Edward: CoOOOooOOOOoOOOOoOOOOooor?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well, I guess you can go ahead and share, Ed
Sir-Edward: Ok
Sir-Edward: There's no story by the way
Sir-Edward: None at all
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh, haha
Sir-Edward: But I tried to make it as IF there was a story
Sir-Edward: Here goes:

Sir-Edward shares ~

Sir-Edward: “Last train to Shadow Lake" it sounded melancholy in Jason's ears, like a passing memory only experienced once and then gone forever. The train conductor called again. "Last train to Shadow Lake leaving in three minutes!" Jason trudged slowly down the rainy platform that would take him to his last journey back to Shadow Lake...back to them. He realized that he was always planning on coming back. The place drew him, like a tired moth drawn towards a kindled flame -- and his time was up. He knew he could only put it off for so long. But this was it. No other way. No second chance. The last train to take him back was leaving, and if he wasn't on it when it did, he would never get another chance ever again. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes - he was standing on the threshold. Just one step and his journey would begin. No going back. He opened his eyes and almost smiled -- he might be afraid, that was true. But it was going to be an adventure for sure. He took a step, and then another. The first of many-he realized, he found a seat and slumped down to think. He had plenty of time after all. Looking out his window he saw the trees starting to move passed him as the last train to Shadow Lake began its final journey.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well now I wanna know what he's up to.
Sir-Edward: I wish I knew too.
Ariel.of.Narnia: As for me, I've barely begun 'cause I had no idea what I was doing, so...
Sir-Edward: What did you have in mind in terms of world/time period?
Ariel.of.Narnia: For yours?
Sir-Edward: Yeah
Sir-Edward: What was your look on it?
Sir-Edward: I personally have no idea
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hm. well, I think I had something like a Sherlock Holmes time period in my mind.
Sir-Edward: YES!!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Or like the Passages series by Paul McCusker
Sir-Edward: I was sort of going for that kinda!
Sir-Edward: The wha-?
Sir-Edward: By whom?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Haha, sweet!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Paul McCusker writes Adventures in Odyssey
Sir-Edward: Oh yeah!
Sir-Edward: I knew I recognized the name from somewhere
Ariel.of.Narnia: He also wrote this good series of Old Testament stories in a world that's a mish-mash of Revolutionary America, modern times, old-old civilizations, a bit of sci-fi, and a pinch of Narnia
Sir-Edward: Cool!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Yeah. So I was kinda thinking your story could easily fit into that world
Sir-Edward: How about your story
Ariel.of.Narnia: A-hahaha
Ariel.of.Narnia: How long are you willing to wait?
Sir-Edward: For one of your stories? As long as Writer's in running ;)
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well, thanks
Ariel.of.Narnia: *pokes Cor*
Sir-Edward: I'm sure he'll be along soon...
Sir-Edward: "a hundred years is a mere blink in the life of an elf"
Ariel.of.Narnia: *snerk*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Well, if you're willing to stick around, I'll try to finish a draft here. If it ends up being too long, I'll just tell you to come back next week.
Sir-Edward: *nods*
Ariel.of.Narnia: *needs a synonym for cruelty*
Sir-Edward: Un-niceness
Ariel.of.Narnia: Haha, yes... that'll fit perfectly
Sir-Edward: Harshness
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hm, closer...
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ooh, "criticism" works pretty well.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Mm, actually
Ariel.of.Narnia: No
Ariel.of.Narnia: Not quite that either
Sir-Edward: Brutal, callous, hateful, heartless, vicious?
Sir-Edward: Any of those?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Great adjectives, but I need a noun.
Sir-Edward: *bangs head*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Sorry
Sir-Edward: lol
Sir-Edward: Can't you just change them to nouns?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Uh, hate, yes. The rest don't work so well.
Ariel.of.Narnia: *now tries to remember what she was going to write after this bit*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ah, yes, this is true. I'd quite forgotten
elanorelle: *wanders in*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Elanor!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hi.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Do you have anything to share? Ed might die of boredom by the time I'm done.
elanorelle: No. :P Busy week for me.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ah, okay
Ariel.of.Narnia: Feel up to a prompt?
elanorelle: Sure
Ariel.of.Narnia: Ed suggested this one: write a story with the title "The Last Train to Shadow Lake"
elanorelle: Ah, could make for some interesting stories.
elanorelle: I guess I could give it a shot. Nothing to lose.
Coromir: Sorry, guys
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh, hi, Cor!
Coromir: I left, lol
Coromir: I’m back though now
Ariel.of.Narnia: Haha, okay. Did you finish your story?
Coromir: Huh, no
Coromir: Sorry
Ariel.of.Narnia: That's okay.
Ariel.of.Narnia: I'm plugging away at mine and Elanor's giving it a shot
Coromir: About what now?
Coromir: What's the theme?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Still the same one.
Ariel.of.Narnia: I take forever and a day.
Coromir: Say it again?
Coromir: What theme?
Coromir: How long?
Ariel.of.Narnia: "The Last Train to Shadow Lake"
Ariel.of.Narnia: However long or short you like.
Coromir: *has an idea*
Ariel.of.Narnia: Gonna give it a shot?
Coromir: Gimmie a sec
Coromir: Do I make it up on the spot????
Ariel.of.Narnia: You can write it out first, and then share here. Or you can even share it next week.
Coromir: OK!
Ariel.of.Narnia: *wonders if Ed's come back*
Coromir: Hey, I have to go to bed now!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay, good night, cor!
Coromir: This was fun, so Ariel can you PM me the next meeting time and stuff so I can make it?
Coromir: Because this was a lot of fun and I will have a story for next time!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Sure, I'll try to remember to do so!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Look forward to seeing you next week!
elanorelle: See you!
Coromir: Night!
Ariel.of.Narnia: How you doing, Ela? I think I'm close to finishing mine (finally...)
Sir-Edward: I'm back!
Ariel.of.Narnia: Hello :)
Ariel.of.Narnia: I think I'm almost done. I think
Ariel.of.Narnia: *looks at time* Man... I need help.
elanorelle: Not too well. I already scrapped five different ideas. I think I have something going now, though.
Ariel.of.Narnia: @Ela: that sounds familiar.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay, rough draft done
Ariel.of.Narnia: And only 460 words to show for it. *blush*
elanorelle: 283 for me. Harder than I thought.
Ariel.of.Narnia: I agree!
Ariel.of.Narnia: 'twas an inspiring but difficult prompt.
Ariel.of.Narnia: *pokes Ed*
Sir-Edward: Yes?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Can I share now?
Sir-Edward: Indeed!
Sir-Edward: I need to get some sleep soon so please do
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh, now I just feel bad.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Okay

Ariel.of.Narnia shares ~

Ariel.of.Narnia: We all know the title, so...
Ariel.of.Narnia: Shadow Lake was many things to Anysia Douglas, but to me, it means nothing. By “nothing”, I mean that it left me with nothing. And by “nothing”, I mean nothing of her.
Oh, I saw it coming. I knew. I had been warned.
And now that it has happened, I’ve heard no end of it.
People can be so cruel. Anysia knew of it firsthand, even before I had. It was only after I’d met her that I too tasted it. The pain inflicted upon each of us came from very different sources – hers from her lifestyle, mine by association – but I helped her and I’d like to think she supported me as well. Ours was a strange relationship.
We were very different, she and I. The only circle in which we both ran was my town of Alder Grove itself. I had seen her many times, but it wasn’t until the day she bumped into me that our eyes met. From then on, we became our own, strange circle.
Well. I say “from then on”. It would be more accurate to say “until she left”.
Anysia was an impulsive creature. It was for this reason that I knew. I tried to stop her. I ran after her, even barefoot in my nightclothes and through the rain. But the station master said I could do no more that night, for she had boarded the 11:25 train to far-off Shadow Lake, the last train till the morning.
I waited, telling myself to have patience. I left the door unlocked, hoping she’d walk in like she was wont to do. I bore the taunts and admonitions, refusing to give up on what we had. How much I had. But I did not forget, no matter how much they advised that I ought. Nor did I allow them to forget.
But it’s been too long. Far too long. I can wait no longer.
Economics have changed. They’re talking about discontinuing service on the western line to Alder Grove and, by extension, Shadow Lake. These dwindling towns are unprofitable, they say, a drain on resources.
I wait till I can wait no longer. The sun has long set by the time I stand amongst my east-bound neighbours, awaiting my turn to purchase a ticket.
The station master beckons to me. “Next.” I step up, set my bags down, and open my wallet. “What’ll your final destination be? Fare to Queenspointe or Wellston is –”
“How much to Shadow Lake?”
The station master eyes me from under his thick, furrowed brows. “Tomorrow, all trains run east. This may be your last chance.”
I set the money before him. “Tonight, I wish to be on the last train to Shadow Lake.”

Ariel.of.Narnia: The end
Sir-Edward: *Applause!!!*
elanorelle: *claps *
Sir-Edward: Amazing!
elanorelle: It's the /last/ train. I like that.
Ariel.of.Narnia: Thank you
Sir-Edward: Saying something is the "Last" just has a certain weight to it because you know there will be nothing like it again.
Sir-Edward: Adds coolness to a story
Sir-Edward: Anybody else have anything to share?
Ariel.of.Narnia: Yes. I think "Last" and "Shadow" were what inspired me
Sir-Edward: Heehee
elanorelle: I'm still at work on mine.
Sir-Edward: Ok
Sir-Edward: Next writer's?
Ariel.of.Narnia: You can head to bed, Ed. :P
Sir-Edward: That rhymes
Sir-Edward: lol
elanorelle: smiley
Sir-Edward: Thanks, I think I'll get some shuteye, it's almost midnight
Ariel.of.Narnia: Oh, yikes. Yes. Good night, Ed!
Sir-Edward: Happy writing! *poofs*
elanorelle: My my. Goodnight, Ed!
Ariel.of.Narnia: So did you still want to run that tonight or wait till next week?
elanorelle: I guess I could share it next week.
Ariel.of.Narnia: In that case then, Writers' dismissed!
