The Lion's Call

Top Ten Narnia Collectibles Released Before 2005

The following collectible items are great for the mainstream Narnia collector, that is, one who wants some nice references, attractive editions of the books, and such. Though some are out of print, most are not too hard to find or exceptionally expensive.
Name Availability Cost
The Chronicles of Narnia Box Set - Full Color Collector's Edition In Print $
Why? So I can see Pauline Baynes' illustrations in color without lugging around a massive 7 books-in-one volume. Ideal for reading, gently ;).
Companion to Narnia In Print $
Why? It's one of the largest and most comprehensive guides to the characters, places, and ideas of Narnia. A classic.
The Land of Narnia Out of Print Available Used $
Why? It's an attractive, enjoyable, and accessible (brief) Narnia primer.
Focus on the Family Radio Dramas In Print $$
Why? With its wonderful production quality, overall fine casting, and delightful music, you may find yourself moved anew by this rendition of the beloved tales.
Pauline Baynes Map of Narnia Out of Print $
Why? How else are you supposed to find your way around Narnia? This map can be a bit expensive on eBay, but is fairly nice for framing. The older edition printings are nicer.
A Book of Narnians Out of Print Available Used $
Why? This book may contains more Pauline Baynes paintings of Narnia than all other Narnia publications put together (Not counting the newly-colored line drawings).
C.S. Lewis: Letters to Children In Print $
Why? Though not technically labeled as a Narnia item, this book deals mostly with children's responses to Narnia and Lewis' answers. A charming read.
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - Illustrated by Christian Birmingham In Print $
Why? This is probably the most lavishly illustrated picture book of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Birmingham's pastels are a delight.
The Chronicles of Narnia Miniseries DVD Set In Print $
Why? This production was striking for its time and for its budget, and faithfully adapts The Lion, Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, and Silver Chair. You'll love some parts and hate others, but you should see it regardless.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Cartoon In Print $
Why? This very faithful adaptation may look a bit dated in its animation style, but it's still a great deal of fun, and an especially good introduction for kids (This movie was my first visit to Narnia.).
