TLCinema - Prince Caspian Event!

Sorry this is late in the planning, but I’m here to announce that TLC is having a Prince Caspian movie event on Wednesday, May 16 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Disney/Walden adaptation!
I’ll set up a forum thread for running (and post-event) commentary and discussion. For those who can make it, we’ll be staring our synchronized viewing at 5:00 Pacific Time (sorry, West Coasters, but we want to be able to accommodate the East Coasters’ bedtimes!), so prep your TVs, computers, phones, whatever (and food/snacks if needed!) and be ready to start at that time! (Remember that two devices may be helpful: one for watching, one for commenting on the designated thread.)
For those who can’t make it or join in late, go ahead and watch on your own time and add your commentary to the designated thread.

C.S. Lewis, The Most Reluctant Convert

Max Maclean of Fellowship for Performing Arts has put together another C.S. Lewis-based show! This time he draws on Surprised by Joy and Jack's other non-fiction writings to dramatize his odyssey to faith.

And I get to go see it with my husband next Sunday!! Can't wait :D
I'll let you know how it goes.

By the way, the play is booked for Chicago and London too after it leaves the Los Angeles metroplex.

Reporters Being Sought for The Lion's Call News Team

Are you an enthusiastic Narnia fan who would love to be a part of bringing Narnia-related news to the attention of people on The Lion’s Call? As we continue to get updates concerning the upcoming Narnia film, The Lion’s Call is looking for additional reporters to join our News Team. This would not only involve reporting breaking news for The Silver Chair, but also submitting lengthier articles dealing with C.S. Lewis, Narnia, and other subjects related to these.

We are especially looking for more full-time reporters, though part-timers are very welcome as well. Right now, depending on the number of reporters we have comprising the team, full-timers are defined as writing an article every three weeks (depending on the number of reporters we have). Part-timers will be expected to write an article every three months, though more than this is highly encouraged. As we receive breaking news, it will be our goal to post this news as soon as possible.

Being a reporter on The Lion’s Call is not a paid position, though there are other benefits. You will get the experience of finding news on the web and composing articles from this information. There may also be opportunities to attend events near your area as a member of the press, which may result in better access. Your position as a reporter may also include interviews with celebrities or other public figures, whether in person or via the web. You will also be able to include your experience as a reporter on your resume or CV.

Parental consent is needed for members younger than 18, as we will be conducting hour-long video meetings on Google Hangouts every month. These will be held in order to keep updated with current articles being written and for reporters to share their questions and ideas. You will need a Google+ account to be a part of these. These video meetings may become less frequent over time. Part-time reporters are only required to attend meetings quarterly, though they are welcome to join whenever possible.

If you are interested in a reporter’s position, please Private Message always narnian by March 15, 2016 to apply. You may also contact some of our current reporters for more information on a reporter's position: Tenethia, Ajnos, and Lil. (Note that these reporters will only be offering answers to questions concerning the position, not accepting applications.)

Hello, Everyone!

I'm here to announce that The Lion's Call now has a reading group! Tooky and I have begun construction on the Book Club Cafe in the Town Square, which will be hosting the Armchair Adventurers as we read through books like The Hobbit, Ella Enchanted, and others. We'll be opening on March 1st, starting with The Hobbit, and reading five chapters a week! We'll have some discussion in there on the book, and we'd love for everyone to join us!

I heard we've also got a coffee-shop in there, so you should at least drop by for a glass and see what's up!

Coriakin's Kitchen - Last Week to Enter!

Hey, everybody! Just a reminder that our Coriakin's Kitchen contest ends May 31. That's next Sunday, folks! Remember to whip up something Narnian, take pictures, and PM the whole shebang to Ajnos, The Happy Islander, Lucy Took, or Swanwhite! Remember that it doesn't have to be fancy - seriously, one of my own entries is straight out of a cookbook and titled as belonging to one of the Narnian countries, nothing more. We look forward to seeing what you enter!

Coriakin's Kitchen Contest!

Coriakin has found his magic book unfortunately short on recipes! To remedy this, he is hosting a cooking contest this month from April 5ththrough April 30th. The contest is divided into two categories and the winner of each category will have their recipe put into Coriakin's Book of Incantations.

The first category is By the Book. This category is for things specifically named in one of the Chronicles. We are asking that no one enter Turkish Delight (too common in the Narnian kitchen craft), and that nobody enter bread and margarine (yes, we know Edmund mentioned it, but that is way too easy.) This category is judged by creativity and accuracy; therefore, be sure to follow book descriptions, but try to choose a dish you don't think someone else will choose. Substitutes are allowed, just remember not to make them too outrageously different. (Beef for lamb? Of course! Turkey for lobster? Reconsider.)

The second category is Out of the Hat. This is the category that will call for more creativity. Beaver's dam cookies? Absolutely! Gingersnaps with the face of Ginger? Totally acceptable! A dish you think would be served in one of the countries in Narnia? Go for it! This category is judged based on creativity and intensity. In this, the concept matters just as much as the final turn-out. Did the White Witch's castle cake tower fall down on you? Who cares? Just the fact that you tried doing something that ridiculously complicated gives you bonus points.
So how do you enter? Simple, really. Name your dish, and provide a short description of it, telling us things like what gave you the inspiration for the dish, and where in the book can we find a description of the dish (For By the Book entries)? Then, take some pictures of it. Be sure to cite any sources you used. If you used a specific recipe or watched some Youtube videos that gave you ideas or tutorials, be sure to include them. Then, private message your entry to Ajnos, Swanwhite, Lucy Took, or the Happy Islander.

Judging will commence in early May. As previously mentioned, the winning recipes will be put in the Book of Incantations, and the winners will receive full-color copies of their respective pages.

April Marathon!

In January, we held a "Winter Challenge" in which we read all seven of The Chronicles of Narnia in one week -- one book a day. When that was over, I recall some people saying they really enjoyed that and would like to do it again. I believe I promised we would. So here we are!

The April Marathon will begin Easter Sunday, April 5th. Because of this, I am planning to read LWW first, and then proceed in Chronological order the rest of the week, simply switching MN and LWW. The week would look something like this:

April 5 -- LWW
April 6 -- MN
April 7 -- HHB
April 8 -- PC
April 9 -- VDT
April 10 -- SC
April 11 -- LB

We will have a sharing thread up in the General Narnia Discussions thread. Because of how much reading there is, sharing is not required, but if you have a thought you liked in reading, or a favorite character you re-discovered, or wrote a fanfic or poem or drew a picture based on your reading, there would be the place to share it.

If you want to join in but feel you don't have time to do all the reading, fear not! You can do audio books, or the FotF audio dramas. The only thing I'd prefer you not to do get the reading in is watch the films. :P

It will be a hard, grueling week, and I'm looking for only the best, the brightest, the strongest, the most enduring Narnians to join with me on my quest. Who is with me?

Writer's Group Time Change!

After some consideration, it has been decided to alter the time for Writer's Group. Instead of having it at noon Pacific time, the chat room based meetings will now commence at 5:30pm Pacific time every Saturday, beginning February 7th.

If you have never been to Writer's Group, it is a gathering of writers of poetry and prose. We meet in the chat room to share writing with one another, brainstorm ideas, and do writing exercises. If you have attended previously but haven't been around for a few months, I encourage you to come by soon and check out the new things we are doing!
