It occurred to me, that since all the recent Narnia movies have had feature battles that they might try to put a battle in The Silver Chair. After all, there are two possible armies that could attack Narnia: the Giants of Ettinsmoor and the Underland Gnomes.

Altered Version 1: The Giants of Ettinsmoor attack Narnia because they are angry about their Autumn Feast not being as elaborate as originally planned.

Altered Version 2: The Lady of the Green Kirtle gets further along in attacking Narnia than she should. She uses her enchanted gnomes to attack Narnia. Jill and Eustace barely stop her before she reaches the throne of Narnia.

Altered Version 3: The Gnomes attack Narnia, but stop when the witch is killed. They are so horrified that they were enchanted to fight for her, that they decide to attack the Giants of Ettinsmoor who are also attacking Narnia.

My question is: Why do we have to have a battle? Isn't the story itself interesting enough already?

I hope they do not have the gnomes attack Narnia, they are such friendly people and it would be very sad to see them fighting Narnia just because they were enchanted. We would probably also never find out about Bism, but the movie might cut that scene for time anyway. I also do not think gnomes would stick around to fight the Giants of Ettinsmoor since they are so afraid of being on the surface.

What are your thoughts?

So I was watching VDT on TV last night and my dad was quite disappointed after we told him that Caspian married Ramandu's daughter, that we didn't get to see his wedding (or at least some acknowledgement that it was going to happen) at the end of the film. He asked if it would be in the next film.

Which got me thinking. Technically it's to late, because Rilian is already grown up and Caspian old by the time of the Silver Chair. But what's to stop them having a bit of back story at the beginning that starts with Caspian's wedding and then Rilian being born and then going on to the bit with the serpent killing RD and Rilian's response?

I'm not entirely sure how I want those scenes to be done either, so what are your thoughts? Should they be shown in the intro or in flashback, or simply told of-stage as in the book? In the BBC Silver Chair, they had a problem because they'd shown Rilian at the beginning. And since we knew how he looked, they gave him that bizarre mask so we wouldn't recognise him. What do you think they should do in the new film?

I know this is really premature, but I just started wondering, and thought I'd ask what you think. Assuming The Silver Chair is successful and they want to make the rest of the books, which book should they make next?

After The Silver Chair, it's kinda "anything goes", since we're done with the PC/VDT/SC group that you really need to keep in order. There's a sense in which it's hard to imagine not having The Last Battle last, because it ends things off (not to mention questions about how feasible it is to make a Last Battle film at all). This leaves The Magicians Nephew and The Horse and His Boy, one of which is a prequel and the other an insert/spin-off.

On the other hand, if we want to be practical, maybe The Last Battle does need to follow The Silver Chair as it's a Eustace and Jill adventure. Sure, the Pevensies are in it to a small extent, but if we want the same actor and actress to play Eustace and Jill, having learnt what we have about child actor ageing, it might make the most sense.

Anyway, those are my (slightly confused) thoughts. What do you think?
