If you know my poetry, you know I like to rhyme so this piece may come as a surprise. I'm trying new stuff
but I shan't abandon my rhyming ways.What is in a Name?
I have something for you.
It is a sound.
It is mine,
but you can have it without my losing it one bit.
I'll stick it in your ear,
and you can run it around your mind,
and let it slide off your tongue
as often as you like.
It was made for me,
but I make it too
with every path I take,
the things I've done and the things I do.
You can play with it,
shorten it,
or stretch it out.
You can make it your own,
but it will always be mine
so long as you mean me when you use it.
But I will understand if you misplace it.
I will not blame you if you drop it.
It is a slippery thing when new,
and I can always give it back to you again.
And if in passing time
you learn my face,
and map the workings of my mind
the sound will deepen and fill
with everything you put there.
And there is just one thing,
I would ask in return.
Just one request,
if you’d be so kind.
Would you give me also
a sound that means you,
a sound I could fill and hold on to?
