Somehow, I've begun to feel like this conversation has arrived to the point where our Lord would have told us "It's not for you to care about, you follow me." (Or whatever the English translation is. John 21, 22.)

Emeth is actually my favorite character in the whole series. He's not a popular choice, because I think a lot of people would choose like one of the Pevensies or Reepicheep or even Eustace or Jill.

I just love how he's a Calormene but he has a soft spot. He's not anything like Rishda, who is seeking to gain more power, even though he's already an upper class Tarkaan.

The scene where he talks about his encounter with Aslan is so memorable. It's like you're seeing Aslan from Emeth's perspective. He has said he's been serving Tash since he was a child, but really he was serving Aslan. Aslan even explains to Emeth-
"It is false. Not because he and I are one, but because we are opposites,
I take to me the services which thou hast done to him, for I and he are
of such different kinds that no service which is vile can be done to me,
and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man
swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oath's sake, it is by me that
he has truly sworn, though he know it not, and it is I who reward him.
And if any man do a cruelty in my name, then, though he says the
name Aslan, it is Tash whom he serves and by Tash his deed is
accepted"

It is a major theme in the book. Shift has the trees cut down and sale Narnians to slavery to Calormenes in the name of Aslan. Aslan would never cut down trees that kill the dryads or sell Narnians to slavery to the Calormenes. Rishda claims to do things in the name of Aslan and Tash, though doesn't believe in either of them. So it would be safe to say that Emeth was doing good in the name of Tash, but was actually serving Aslan.
