Since it's been a month, I hope it's okay to double-post.

(Notice how dark and smudged Denethor's face is. This is because I didn't do a very good job with the first light sketch and had to keep erasing and redrawing it...at least five times. Also, the kind of paper in the notebook I used was loath to give up that which had been drawn on it, and I was using a very large, blunt eraser. So the moral of the story is, I think, this: be careful with your initial sketch and it'll save time later. 😛 I'm still not satisfied with with what I ended up with, but I wasn't about to try erasing and redrawing it again.)

Ooooh, I really like the Theoden one! (Also, I really want that chair!)

I want the chair, too...I just don't know how I'd make it fit in my room. 😆
I just have to say, though, that I really didn't think it through when I decided on the characters I wanted to draw. I do not like drawing beards, as they are exceeding hard to get looking right (for me, anyway), but here I did Gimli, Treebead, and Theoden, who all have these great bushy beards, and then Boromir has a more normal beard (lol). This...ahem...may or may not be why I did Denethor without a beard, though I think it'd be interesting to see him with one.

Thanks, Jaygee. 🙂

EDIT:
So because I'm still dissatisfied with how Denethor turned out in the other drawing, I decided to do a little individual drawing of him, rather than risk making the other one worse. This time he looks less like the Denethor in the movie and slightly more like what I imagined him to be like based off descriptions in the book.

Thanks, Nia. So I've been working on two things recently: facial expressions (hence the second one of Denethor on the last page) and unusual positions and angles.

(I was really bummed that they took out all the Rohan men's braids in the movie. Seriously, these guys had these wonderful long braids in the book, but the movie...!)

Your Eomer looks closer to what I imagined when I read the book.... (I basically imagined Pauline Baynes' VDT Caspian, but older. Movie!Eomer's long, long hair drove me nuts for a long while until I finally got used to it.)
Gandalf carrying Faramir. 😮 I could never manage that sort of pose!

(At least movie-Eomer had the approximately correct length of hair!! Theoden's is what really bothered me.)

The scene where Gandalf rescued Faramir from Denethor was such a cool scene in the book, but they cut it short and took out some really epic moments for the movie. So that's why I drew that one. 😉 It also works as a sort of sequel to the one I did earlier.

I could never manage that sort of pose!

Okay, that's actually what I thought, too, until I tried it. 😛 But then the light pre-sketch looked passable, and I was like, "Hmm...I think I'll darken this up and see if I can get it to work", and I was actually pleased with how the final thing turned out, which surprised me greatly. Usually when I try drawing a new angle or pose for the first time, I end up with a laughably awful result. But this one turned out okay. So hurrah. 😆 I'm sure, Ariel, that if you try some unusual poses, I'm positive you could do them amazingly if you'd just try. I've seen your work, and I think you're better than I am, especially at shading.

@hobbit: Yeah, that scene was pretty short, but I can see why they did it short.
-Remember that a lot of my drawings are copies, especially the ones with shading. 😉 But thanks.)

@Jaygee and Gypse: I'm so glad you like them!

@Ariel: Well, yeah, but...but they skipped the part with the palantir, and so Denethor just came across as naturally grumpy and pessimistic rather than deceived and discouraged! And that made it less meaningful.
(I knowww....but even with a reference picture I do poorly with shading. 😛 )

This was from a few days ago, but I forgot to post it earlier.

@hobbit: True that.

Hey, it's Merry! I'm really loving that design on his sword. 😀

@Ariel: Thanks!! I want a sword like that, frankly. The barrow-blades were described so beautifully in the book, but they weren't anywhere near as cool in the movie.

(So last night I was casually going on with reading through LOTR when I came to the line, "...and their hair, raven and golden, streamed out mingling in the air." And it suddenly dawned on me that, though I've read LOTR multiple times and have read that line every time, Faramir always seemed to me to have brown hair only slightly darker than he had in the movie--hence the shade in my drawings of him--when in fact he had jet-black hair like Boromir's. *facepalm* I'm such a moron. Now I either have to change my mental picture or come to some sort of half-way agreement like I did with Gollum.)
