Oh right! I'd quite forgotten tha MN came afterward! Well that does make me wonder what Lewis had in mind then.
The coins might be for the tree of protection rather than the two trees of silver and gold, then.
Trees of silver and gold...*looks around for giant spiders*
In the movies they've used replicas of various old coins to represent Narnian currency, including Athenian Owls. I think one of our members has a couple of the coin props. They were mostly used in VDT I believe, where the slave market made currency necessary, but there weren't going to be any closeups on the coins.
The coins might be for the tree of protection rather than the two trees of silver and gold, then.
Well, except that the Tree of Protection is also only brought up in MN. So we're left with a) Lewis was already playing with those ideas at the time of writing VDT (not that unlikely, actually, considering my own creative processes...); b) the name of Trees for the coins was for another reason entirely, maybe simply because he liked trees.
"Well, except that the Tree of Protection is also only brought up in MN."
What is said about the tree the wardrobe was of in LWW?
"Lewis was already playing with those ideas at the time of writing VDT (not that unlikely, actually, considering my own creative processes...)"
I think it was highly likely too.
What is said about the tree the wardrobe was of in LWW?
Nothing whatsoever.
Or he also could have meant Dryads... course, one might wonder why not Naiads... 😉
Monetising dryads? Hmmm.
"Why not Naiads" - because trees are easier to depict than waves?
Marmota, in that case I was recalling wrong. However, this leaves us with one highly probable solution:
"Lewis was already playing with those ideas at the time of writing VDT (not that unlikely, actually, considering my own creative processes...)"
Public Service Announcement: I would like to take this moment to remind everyone of our very own game involving Narnian Currency: Coin Sorting. If you haven't played in a while, you've probably forgotten what mindless fun it can be. http://www.thelionscall.com/games/coin-sorting/
You're welcome 😉
It is kind of fun. (Hoping to stay non-addicted, in some libraries extensive use of that mght imply a ticket out in favour of "more intelligent" uses of internet). But it is still kind of fun.
Glad you like it. 🙂
