Begging pardon, when I made my horror comment I wasn't considering The Dark Island in VDT! But honestly I still feel like the layers of Wrong here are scarier to me than just embodied nightmare-echoes.
Yes! It is my "giraffe" wool. I was going to use plain yellow but then I remembered I still had some of that and was curious how it would look. It's not going to be a very "Aslan-y" lion, but it's fun anyway.
One bit of speculation that caught my breath this time. The Knight's comment about his Lady being of divine race. What if it was closer to truth than I assumed? All those dreadful carvings of old gods on the ruined giant bridge -- what says they didn't have a lady snake-demon in their pantheon??
This makes a lot of sense. I think it fits with some of Lewis' ideas that "pagan" myths were based on elements of truth. Also, I've recently tstarted watching Stargate SG1 for the first time, where this is kind of the premise (in this case that gods are based on aliens) so it makes perfect sense.
Re: Horror: In some ways this is more horr-ible than the Dark Island because it's so twisted and there's so much uncertainty. Dark Island is just straight up nightmares, this is more sinister.
Once a daughter of Eve. Now a daughter of the Second Adam.
Chapters 11-12: A (silver) chair and a fireplace
I was looking for chair patterns, though I expected I wouldn't find quite the right kind of chair as a knitted pattern.
But I did find this, and it comes with a fireplace, which is perfect for the next chapter so here it is:

Once a daughter of Eve. Now a daughter of the Second Adam.
Replacing the Creator with herself -- she really is a fan of old Serpent tricks, isn't she?

Chapter 12 (Any World but Mine)
She denies there's any Sun
Because she wants to be it –
Center of all cosmic dance,
Muse of any spheres.
She denies the Lion
With a burning of regret
That she's too small to replace him,
For all her bitter years.
The world! The world is under me!
Her imagination cries.
She'd bind you to believe it
With her whispers and seductive sighs.
The universe she summons
With her strumming is but fantasy.
She'd shrink your heart to fit it,
Say there's nothing that you cannot see.
I love the last stanzas of your days 9 and 11 poems, Lily!
Took the chance to do some catching up myself. Since I can only attach one image at a time, I'll have to post multiple times.
Chapter 5's painting is of Puddleglum's lantern. Because I'm obsessed with light/dark contrasts, and SC is rife with them. But more than that, Puddleglum is himself a light in the darkness, over the course of the adventure. His climactic moment with the Lady, of course, but elsewhere too, whether it's reminding Jill and Eustace of something important, plucking up his courage to be of assistance, even finding (hilariously, for him) the bright side of a bleak situation.
An odd choice for Chapter 6: a goose shot down on the moor. My reason for it is that the aside "(they were, of course, not Talking birds)" stood out to me as a dreadful foreshadowing. The dining on Talking Stag is coming, as is the (temporary) downfall of their quest.
For Chapter 7, the salt cellar of liquor served to Puddleglum. I don't know much about salt cellars to begin with, never mind whatever sort Lewis was referring to, but I chose to depict one that has a swivelling lid to contain its contents, much the way our heroes are trapped. It began with the Lady planting the thought of Harfang in their minds, shifted quickly into their own longing for it, rushed into the brief terror of the giant door shutting behind them that melts away in the welcome fire, and led even Puddleglum to give in completely to a willing inhibition of his will and wits.
Chapter 8, the dreadful realization of their wilful blindness to the City Ruinous and the sign. Something that stood out to me especially on this reading is Eustace acknowledging that he wished it could be "Aslan's fault" but realizing that he has no one to blame but himself. Again, this is a major contrast to the way he behaved in VDT.
Chapter 9, the escape under the city. The word "under" doesn't appear in the mad dash and scramble for this escape route, but "under" is where they ended up all the same.
Last one for now, chapter 10. I gave into my love for light/dark contrast again, aiming this time for the arch and stairs leading to Rilian. After all the dark and the dim, sad light, the relief at seeing "honest, yellowish, warm" light is sweet. And though they don't know it yet, there's the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel: the culmination of their quest lies up yonder in that light.
I may not be back for a couple weeks, but I'll reach the end when I can!
So good to see you again, @ariel-of-narnia ! I'm particularly fond of your thoughts on Puddleglum and light. And of course we'll be here for you whenever you can get back.

Chapter 13 (Facts of the Matter)
After all enchantments
Are pretenses laid bare.
Truth comes rushing in
Like to a vacuum in the air.
We don't know yet
What we've next to do,
But we've had our next Sign
And we'll go with you.
Christian names are on our lips
For the first time since that School–
The Lion's on your shield
As ships skip past the harbour's rule.
All the works in the darkness are crumbling away
While we prepare for one last forray.
Chapter 14 (Shallow Lands)
Her kingdom was only a shallow thing, after all:
A solitary, pale and broken town,
Far from the Upper Lands, not truly Down.
Her minions, like you, a folk to pity,
Wrenched from another world, their hearth and home
Farther away than ever you'd thought to roam,
Until one freed gnome beckoned with bright eyes,
And gestured to a world of richest color–
Enough to pay for decades’ thoughtless dolor.
Excuse me for double posting this time. I was falling very behind but here I am to catch up! 😀
Chapter 9- I drew the king and queen of the giants. I like the designs that BBC gave these characters and the actors were pretty good too (especially the king! He felt very warm, welcoming, and friendly when the travellers arrived).
Chapter 10- I went with a very different style of drawing for sure but it was fun doing shading again. I drew a pie plate (which as a baker, I felt like I needed to draw that. 😛 ). I know it's kind of a dark thing to draw because the children would have been in those pies but I also couldn't think of anything else to draw for the chapter XD
and Chapter 11- I drew a bloodhound. I know these dogs were supposed to be chasing the travellers and look a little menacing, but I don't have that kind of skill yet. So I drew a bloodhound... just sitting there and looking cute lol.
I do have full pictures of Chapter 9 and 11 if you want to see them. I know that they're cut out a bit :/
Chapter 9- I *finally* drew Eustace again! I know, I took forever to get to him. XD Anyways, I drew Eustace and Jill looking very strangely at the dark knight (...I gotta stop saying dark knight lol). I wanted to draw the knight but I thought it would be best to draw him at a later time when he reveals who he is later, so there's a bit of suspence there lol. I liked the costumes for the children in BBC but since I tried to make Eustace and Jill older to keep in line with my other drawings, I changed the outfits a little so they looked a little more mature. (I also have the full drawing of this if you want to see that as well).
Chapter 10- *Of course* I had to draw the silver chair. Now, I did not follow BBC for this at all because the chair... looks extremely dramatic and very sharp. So I made it look a little nicer. I was drawing with Ariel at the time so I asked for her opinion and she said it looked elvish. I'll take that compliment but I do find it funny that my Middle Earth brain went to work on this one haha. 😛
Chapter 11- I drew the Queen of the Underland... again 😛 I found this design very interesting. I didn't realize until now that the veil has leaves, but I thought later that it was genius because it's poison ivy! It works very well with her theme and I thought that was avery nice touch to the costume :D. The headpiece was interesting too because I thought that it works for the fantasy/ medieval world but it kind of looks like the shape of a snake's head. I didn't realize that what she had on her head piece was a snake head... call me crazy guys but I think she's the serpent... *sarcastically blows mind* XD
I have the last chapters done but I will post those later in the week! Loving everyone's work! 😀
Good grief I can't count and I can't seem to edit my first post from today lol. Please excuse the extra posting again 😛
What I meant to say was Chapters 6-8. Greatest apologies! XD
