Well, with that glowing review, I might have to go outta my way to see it. 🙂
I would recommend it, but I might be partial to films like these. 😛 But Disney is stepping up their game with their animated features, especially where character and world-building are concerned (this could totally get a TV show and maybe even a sequel).
I forgot to mention the nods to other Disney films, one is quite blatant but funny, a couple BH6 ones, and for the Frozen fans there are little things to look for (one character is even voiced by Kristen Bell). Nick is based on Disney's Robin Hood's design, so that's pretty cool since it was my favourite animated movie as a kid.
😀 Cool, cool.
Ooh, Robin Hood. Loved it as a kid. I was, what, five? when I decided archery was cool. All because of Robin Hood.
Edit:
Watched Zootopia tonight. Surprisingly good in the story department, though a couple of the elements were completely pointless and honestly tainted the experience. And I was also surprised at how intense it got at times (and how frequently). There was one kid who declared in the middle of an action scene, "Mommy, I'm never watching this show again!"
Anyway. Nick's my favourite. Yeah, he's uncooperative and snarky in the beginning (though still somehow likable), but he really changes. My favourite parts were the hug, his not taking the tram, his sharp reprimand of Bogo, and the way that his first concern after popping out of the water is to call for Judy.
And then there was that moment I found out that Judy was voiced by Snow White (from Once Upon a Time, that is), Bogo by the MCU's Heimdall, Mr Big by the king in Frozen, a "frantic pig" by OUAT's Prince Charming, and young Nick by a 66-year-old woman. o.O
I just watched Beyond the Mask the other night...it was really good. ^.^
YES THAT MOVIE IS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
We've got one more episode of Little Dorrit to watch, and we recently finished Wives and Daughters.
I watched I Am David a couple nights ago. It's not a horrible movie or anything, but the book is /way/ better. There are some things that'd be tricky to pull off in film, so....
EDIT: Just watched Seasons of Gray, a modern Joseph story starring Andrew Cheaney (aka Will Reynolds in Beyond the Mask). I'm putting it in the category of "it's alright; I've seen better and I've seen worse" among Christian films. Overall, I did like how they translated things over into the 21st century and was surprised (in a good way) by how they managed a couple bits such as Jacob getting angry about Joseph's dreams. And it was nice to have a Joseph story that didn't develop the character through a desire for revenge against the brothers (even if I do enjoy Paul McCusker's story in his Passages series). I do have three problems with the film, though:
1) Joseph's faith comes across as a "I grew up with Christian influences and I believe in God" sort of faith, not very strong, even when he does talk about hearing God. I liked that he struggled with God, but while I don't want another movie that crams in a message without much style, I think that relationship between him and God should have been stronger and clearer. Or, if they wanted him to start out that way (this is a modern retelling, after all), they should have had him grow more than he did.
2) Too much narration. When you're depending on that much narration to fill in the gaps, there's a problem with the storytelling. 😛
3) Men have emotions too, I totally get that. They don't have to always be macho bricks. But there were a couple bits in which I wasn't so sure about men's reactions, heehee. That's a very minor complaint, though.
4) (Yeah, I know I said three, but I just remembered this now.) One guy has a Jesus fish on his fridge but absolutely no other indication he's a Christian. And that bugs me. (Actually, this complaint ranks higher than the previous one....)
(Note: This film is rated PG-13 for reference to thematic elements found in Genesis.)
Oh, Seasons of Gray! I did enjoy that movie. But you're right, the message of Christianity wasn't very strong. But I liked how the did a modern day interpretation. Very interesting.
Also saw Zootopia! Very cute. Nick was my favorite. 🙂
We restarted North and South last night. 😀
Working through a LOTR marathon 😀
The Peanuts Movie. WIN! It was everything I hoped. (and nothing I feared) in fact it was better. Plus, how could you not win with snoopy's exploits as a writer and or solo pilot against the Red Barron.
Finished watching Sue Thomas last night. 🙂
Watched Jungle Book. Not a bad film and the cgi was phenomenal.
Ooo I've been looking forward to seeing that, Ella. Haven't had the chance yet, though.
I just saw a movie review that talked glowingly of it. I might have to check it out eventually.
We finished LWW last night.:D
