@ella: ooo, you saw it too? 🙂 yes, I thought the music was fantastic. and I actually really ended up liking Maui, he was hilarious. 🙂
Thanks to a conversation with a friend, I've started rewatching the one anime I've seen, which will not be named here because of problematic content. I will say that I had quite the shock when I found out that my favourite character is voiced (in the English dub, I should clarify) by the same actor who voiced Prince Alexander in VeggieTales' The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything as well as La'gann in Young Justice. I think my mouth dropped open.... 😛
@Ariel
WOW. MINE SURE DID
AND I LOOVE THE PIRATES WHO DON'T DO ANYTHING MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Young Justice though... I am thinking about seeing.
What is this particular character's name?
I'm really curious as to which Anime this is and I could probably figure it out from the character name 😛
It's been a long time since I've seen the Pirates Who don't do anything.
(This guy has an impressive IMDB)
@ela @Shi Moana was good. I didn't really know if I was going to like it or not, as the preview looked like it could be funny or dumb. I liked it a lot more than I thought, and, being such a fan of New Zealand, I enjoyed the Polynesian aspect of it. The music was excellent!!! =D
Recently I watched an Irish dvd called The Secret of Kells. It is a story of Brendan, a young monk being raised in a monastery whose guardian is in charge of the monastery and spends the majority of the resources on building a huge wall to keep the Vikings out. When they are not building the wall, they are working on copying and illuminating manuscripts. One day, another monk fleeing the Vikings brings a book he is working on called The Book of Kells, and he encourages Brendan to use his own artistic talents on the manuscript (Brendan was not allowed to do this with any manuscripts before).
Brendan soon needs to go into the woods to find more art supplies, there he meets a girl Aisling, who shows him "her" forest. Eventually, though, the Vikings come and destroy much of the land. At the end of the movie, Brendan takes the completed book around Ireland to show the people. The Book of Kells, although it is just described as "The book that turns darkness into light" in the movie, is actually the four Gospels and a few Irish records.
Positive aspects: Brendan learns about the world outside the monastery that they are trying to reach and is able to use what he learns to bring the book to them. There is no romance and I don't remember any swearing. The animation is made to look a little like an illuminated manuscript and it is an interesting art style that was nominated for an award.
Problematic content: there are magical elements in this movie. A girl causes a cat's spirit to go rescue someone, an unseen mythical evil in a cave attacks the main characters, and there is a reincarnation. In addition, Brendan is forced to choose between working on the book and obeying his guardian. The Vikings, very stylistically, attack the monastery (it is PG, less violent than CoN movies). Also, the movie cannot be called politically correct in America, because the Vikings are drawn to look like monsters and the Asian and African monks at Kells are rather stereotyped.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie best the second time I watched it. The first time I was mainly confused by all the mythical elements involved. When I watched it, looking at Aisling as a symbolic representative of the Celtic people, it made more sense. In addition, I found it to be very inspiring, as I like to draw.
It would definitely be called a foreign movie, though, it doesn't follow the typical English-language movie storylines.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well." - John 14:6-7a
started agents of shield last week...i'm on episode 13 or 14. i really like it and there are a ton of possible ships so that's a bonus. *cough*fitzsimmonsisotp*cough*
@Pev: Young Justice is... *thinks* probably my favourite TV show. Numero uno. I love the characters and how much they do with and between them. The stories are largely good (just a couple eps I'm not a big fan of). My only problems with it are the sometimes very mystical elements of the magic characters, implied relationships (one unmarried couple are clearly living together) and a personal opinion that there is an excess of kissing though it tends to be here and there, and the fact that the team is not always a great role model. Oh, yeah, and there are two sets of aliens that refer to themselves as "gods".
@Tooky: Yuri Lowenthal does have an impressive IMDB. I remember looking him up once and feeling my eyes bug out as I kept scrolling... and scrolling... and scrolling.... 😛 I'm PM you the name of the character to which I was referring.
@Hermit: Sounds both very interesting and a little weird (where the magic is concerned). And you say it was animated?
@feather: "tons" of possible ships? I don't remember there being that many.... But then, I largely blocked out season one from my memory before I was bored enough to watch season two and decided I liked it.
@featherfish Lol. I only see, and see with apathy, FitzSimmons and SkyeWard. I mean, you can't pair Phil with anybody really. Nor Melinda Mae. At least, I don't think so......
@Ariel Okay. I shall be on guard when I see them, if ever. 😛
You can pair Phil with Mae in the early seasons if you squint. There's some hints of MeaWard in the early season as well, but that fades quickly. FitzSkye is briefly a thing. SimmonsTripp is also briefly a thing as well.
And those are just the conventional ship possibilities. Season one you can mash pretty much anyone together and have some sort of almost understandable reason for it.
Nope. Not at all. 😛
I wouldn't even think of that.
You DEFINITELY see a strong respect for Melinda Mae.
Cannot see any of the others you mention though.
@Tooky: MayWard was... eh, not a proper ship, I don't think. I was completely weirded out by the time I finally realized they were... yeah. (I'm blissfully slow to these things, lol.) And I felt nothing but glee when May smashed that sorry excuse of a relationship. You know, with a nail gun. (Okay, technically I winced at that part.)
But why did you have to bring up Tripp?! *weeps over that broken fraction of her heart*
...We just watched Disney's A Christmas Carol. I was very pleasantly surprised, and I enjoyed the creepy animation and many jump scares. 😉 Overall, Disney did a wonderful job sticking to the book, and I would definitely recommend it.
@Everyone talking about AoS ships: I think I could only see May with one person, but that didn't work out due to complicated reasons. I liked their relationship and it's sad that it ended.
@Alex: I remember watching that. Animation was kinda uncanny valley like The Polar Express. 😛
@Ela
Lol okay then. I totally cannot see that. XD
@Ariel. O.o
