Watched the movie "Aladdin" was okay.
He does all things well.
Wait, the new one?
Yes the new one. Where I am it came out early
He does all things well.
Ah, okay! π Still not sure if Iβll see it in theaters, but Iβm not uninterested.
Ooh, I'm going to see that this Wednesday! Not expecting too much out of it to ensure that I won't be disappointed. π
Hobbit that is my philosophy too.
He does all things well.
I know I was the last one to comment but I watched Tolkien last night. Really too bad they didn't show his faith a little more clearly
He does all things well.
That's alright, knight. If there's a couple days between posts, double-posting is not an issue.
I'd love to hear more detailed thoughts on your viewing, if you're willing to share. I've decided to wait till home video release.
Saw Aladdin and was...pleasantly surprised, actually? Alex suggested that maybe the cartoon was the story from Jasmine's point of view and the live-action was from Aladdin's and that really made it a ton of fun to watch.
Ariel there were some war scenes some friendship scenes and a slight taste of romantic scenes. But as everyone points out the faith scenes are just not there grrr and Tolkien without Christianity is like if Peter, Susan and Edmund and Lucy came to Narnia and discovering they aren't kings or queens. It makes no sense. Besides that one fact the movie seemed good for one not versed in Tolkien history. Did you have a question in mind?
He does all things well.
@hobbit: I never would have thought to say that the cartoon Aladdin was in Jasmineβs POV (though she certainly has POV scenes). But I like the sound of βmore Aladdinβ. I donβt know when Iβll see it, but Iβm looking forward to it.
@knight: I admittedly donβt know too much about Tolkienβs faith (apart from his being Catholic and the one who steered Lewis to Christ), but I kinda get the feeling Iβd pick up on the fact that itβs mostly missing from the film.
Erm, apart from general questions about the film experience, my only other question pertains to a something that PluggedIn had mentioned that, due to the topic, I wonβt repeat here. I guess I want to know if PluggedIn was justified in picking up on that, not that I doubt that they are.
Since I don't know what Pluggedln is I guess I'll leave it at that. Except the war scenes I would almost classify this film for young audience.
He does all things well.
Guess that answers my question then. π
PluggedIn is Focus on the Familyβs review department. They cover movies in particular, video games, music, tv shows (though not every episode), and apparently books.
I saw Aladdin last night and decided itβs alright. There were some things that I liked, other parts that were fine, and others that were way out of place. And one scene that is definitely meant to make you cringe but went on too long in its awkwardness, in my opinion.
Genie was good. Heβs no Robin Williams, but thatβs okay. Will Smith played him somewhat differently and it works.
Aladdin himself... Iβve got some mixed feelings. I liked him in the beginning, but thereβs a portion in the middle that got wonky. Part of it played into character development, but part just felt out of character. I do like that he displays a smoothness in his street smarts (like, so smooth that he pulls extra stunts because βwhereβs the fun in [using stairs]?β And there was a piece of early interaction with Jasmine that works well, I think.
People seem to like cartoon!Jasmine for being strong and adventurous. Adventurous, maybe, but I never considered her strong. More just angsty (though not totally for bad reasons). This Jasmine is stronger and comes off as having a solid voice to be heard. That said, I think they handled the woman-empowerment pretty well. At no point did I feel like it was being pushed on me.
I like the direction they took with Jafar, and appreciate what they were doing with his backstory even though I donβt think it was necessary to give him that particular backstory.
The Sultan isnβt a flighty little puffball, so Iβm very much good with seeing a version of the character I believe I could respect in real life. Iago is a more realistic parrot (he speaks in short bits and with words that heβs heard, even though heβs clearly a little smart aleck). I liked Abu a fair bit. Rajah is cooler βcause he plays a more active role in being protective of Jasmine. Carpet is still fun, though done less with than in the cartoon. The side plot with Genie seemed out of place, but itβs alright (I would have liked it better if I liked the other person involved better).
Watched Toy Story 4 last night. While I can say that I was happy with where TS3 ended and TS4 was unnecessary, I can also say that TS4 is a fine addition. While I still havenβt found much reason for certain characters (apart from comic relief), Iβm okay with them. And, since this is Toy Story, itβs got a lot of heart and a big helping of theme.
So without spoiling anything, Iβll just sum it up like Larry the Cucumber: βI laughed, I cried, it moved me, Bob.β
