You assumed right, Hobbit!
Merry Christmas, whether you are watching incredibles or North and South!
I started the next season of a series I've enjoyed. There's content, to be sure, but the time period (1910s leading into the 20s) and the topics explored are worth it for me.
Annnd, Sherlock. The Christmas special was not what I was expecting (strange... quite strange, especially when it was nearing the end), but I liked it - probably more than I ought. Mycroft gave me one of the best laughs I've had in a while. 😆 😆
North and South is glorious and beautiful and on Netflix right now.
I'm watching Downton Abbey right now. I'm halfway through season 4.
My siblings and I have been marathoning all the Sight & Sound DVDs we have.
I have been watching some Rob Skiba video (or hearing, there is no movement on picture).
Watched a BBC thriller last night called "The Lady Vanishes". (Note that though it's rated G, a couple things are mentioned that I think are PG in nature.) It was interesting but it would have been more interesting if the summary hadn't given something away. 🙂
Just started Downton Abbey.
Be prepared to surrender all free time Ela.
I wouldn't suggest it for the younger TLC members since it deals with a lot of mature themes (Though in a classy and tasteful manner, even though parts can get very....uncomfortable at times.), but otherwise it is gorgeous.
Haha, I see what you mean! I'm starting up the second season.
@Ela: O_O That was fast. 😛
It does seem quite fast, doesn't it? Well, I didn't actually start just then. 😛 I watched a couple eps prior. There were only 7 in its first season. I am now halfway through the second.
I'm done hearing the video as per earlier today, will try to collect my comments in a blog post.
Downtown Abbey, isn't that the one where there are so many conventional Anglicans as English aristocracy were back then, but still religion is nearly never mentioned, except for the anti-Catholic feelings once, because the BBC film makers dreaded mentioning religion would hurt certain people?
Yeah, it has 8 episodes per season so it's a sorta fast watch.
I think that religion is rarely mentioned because the general sentiment towards religion of the characters is that of apathy as it is with many of the British upperclass in that time period, or in general historically. Sure, there's always been members of the nobility who really did have deeply held religious sentiments and legitimate beliefs but it seems like apathy and just going with the state religion has been the norm in Britain. At least that's what Jane Austen seems like to me 😛
Recently saw "In the Heart of the Sea," a pretty good film, though it had a lot more language than I care to hear. But it was a good story (though not accurate, I hear, though I've personally not read the book) and I enjoyed watching Chris Hemsworth. As a warning it also deals with cannibalism, though it is done ... pretty discreetly aa far as that goes. Also the book it is based on is a true story, and the one that inspired Moby Dick. Not a favorite, and I would have enjoyed it more had there been no or less swearing.
Finished with season 2 of Downton Abbey.
*edit*
I'm now halfway through the third season. This is going by fast! I can't believe how much I'm liking this series and how invested I am now. Can't put a finger on my favourite character yet, but there are a few I'm already leaning toward.
