I'm not familiar with that one.
Was it different in ways you liked, or ways that annoyed you?

I might revisit a couple of cartoon storylines I never finished this month, actually. Other than that, I'll be continuing Librarians and Leverage: Redemption with my sisters and college buddy. (Obligatory note that Leverage: Redemption does contain some content which is not considered TLC-appropriate. I've still been loving the mystery/scheme of the day format and the continuing character development from the original series.)

Two unrelated rabbit trails got me watching the documentary series “Churchill’s Bodyguard” and the 1993 “The Fugitive” (swear volume warning on that one). I also watched the first episode of the ‘60s show “The Fugitive”, but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. That said, I might revisit it after learning that it eventually gets around to the more mystery bit of the story.

I haven't watched much yet this year honestly. I did see the new Black Panther film with my sisters and college friend, and generally enjoyed it. Other than that, just the occasional music and animal videos folks repost to social media. I'll let you know when that changes.

Went to the Super Mario Bros Movie yesterday. Story could have used some buffing up and I would have liked to see some more done with a particular character arc, but I was entertained.

Started "The Ark" a serie that isn't for younger audiences. But very interesting and captivating sci-fi.

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a theater two weeks in a row for different films before, but I have now. (Would have been three films in three weeks, but the one that was going to be my third apparently will have a long scene of something I definitely don’t want, so….)
Anyway, the first was Sound of Freedom. A hard topic, but a good one to be aware of, and the film strikes a good balance between implication and not showing more than it needs to. (That said, I will acknowledge that even that may be too much for some viewers.) Very well produced too — some shots had such artistry as I felt I haven’t seen much lately.
The second was Mission: Impossible 7. I’ve watched the others twice in the last month and a half or so, and enjoy them (except 2; I have issues with that one). This one delivered to expectation, and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Watched the latest Indiana Jones and rather liked it. I understand that it was unpopular but I'm more of a SW guy anyways. Just something at the end that I personally would have ended differentely.

Double posting to say I watched, "Blue Beatle" not to bad if you get past some of the sterotypes they use for jokes.

I've been meaning to come on here and see if anyone else is watching the new Percy Jackson series on Disney Plus. I'm enjoying it a lot (though I feel like it might play better when it's all out and you don't have to wait a week between episodes).

The first PJ books were coming out in South Africa just when my friends and I were majoring in Classical Civilisations for our undergrad degrees, and at the start of the revival in interest in Classical myth-inspired media. So we really enjoyed the book's modern take on the myths. One of my friends even did a major project on them. When the first movie came out, we excitedly went to watch it together and were really disappointed how drastically they rewrote the plot. Then they tried to fix it in the sequel by adding back things they changed in the first book and that ruined te second one. It was mostly a meas.

Somehow, that makes this new series extra-exciting (even if it makes me feel really old) and I'm loving the portrayal so far. Even though it has its own modifications from the books, it's being overseen by the author and most of them feel like they're "in the spirit" of the books, which was to contemporise Greek mythology for a present-day audience.

I haven't seen the series yet and honestly hadn't read much of the original books, but I've been seeing some positive buzz in my circles, including from my little sis, so I'm curious to try it eventually.

I think the books in general are always going to be the best but it's really interesting how the author himself seems to be really invested in making changes and updates (perhaps based on suggestions and criticisms he has received over the years). On occasion, he has even come out to explain changes, and it sort of hit me that perhaps he's changing it to what he wishes he had done differently. (I read someone's comment that this was his first big book and he's bound to have regrets about both some of the mythical and some of the contemporary elements). Even Tolkien was constantly changing and updating his unpublished works, and sometimes dabbled in ideas for updates to his published ones.

Completely unrelated, I finally finished watching S1 of Star Trek: Prodigy with my brother yesterday. I had seen Part 1 in April 2022 when it was on our local Nickelodeon channel but never had a chance to see the rest as we don't have Paramount+ in South Africa yet. Then sometime last year I was horrified to hear Paramount+ had cancelled it and removed it from their catalogue (even though S2 was nearly finished production). Thankfully Netflix picked it up and they'll be releasing S2 later this year. I've really enjoyed it so far. For those who don't know, it's an animated Star Trek series for kids set after, and as a bit of a sequel to, Voyager - though the main characters are all new kids from the Delta Quadrant.
