And Sir Scott actually accidentally made up the name Cedric; it was a misspelling of the Middle Ages name Cerdic.
That too.
Cerdic = Coroticus, a British name.
Sir Walter thought it was an Angli-Saxon one ending in -ric, like Osric, Eric, Alfric ...
Oh, interesting!
@Ariel: That sound like something I must get my hands on! What is this manga called?
@Elanor: It's simply "Big Hero 6, volume 1" (there are two to date; don't know if more will be written) by Haruki Ueno. There are bits that are directly from the movie (microbots, showcase, falling out a window, whatnot), but it's a different storyline. And there's more Tadashi!!! 😀
I've been reading some of Hans Christian Anderson's works. Why are so many children's stories so disturbing? It's like Grimm's fairy tales all over again!
1) HCAndersen had obviously read Grimm.
2) Nevertheless, admit he is more moralising and sentimental.
Own answer on topic: the CorJesuSacratissimum Blog quoting Belloc on the topic of heresy.
Heresy is the dislocation of some complete and self-supporting scheme by the introduction of a novel denial of some essential part therein ... The denial of a scheme wholesale is not heresy, and has not the creative power of a heresy. It is of the essence of heresy that it leaves standing a great part of the structure it attacks. ... The man who is certain that he is going to die for good and for all may believe that Jesus of Nazareth was Very God of Very God, that God is Triune, that the Incarnation was accompanied by a Virgin Birth, that bread and wine are transformed by a particular formula; he may recite a great number of Christian prayers and admire and copy chosen Christian exemplars, but he will be quite a different man from the man who takes immortality for granted.
I have indeed read Ivanhoe, and I love it. Another of my favorite series is The Kingdom Series, and it's sequel, The Knights of Arethtrae. I also loved the series The Black Stallion. A top, on my list.
I just found out about the Kingdom Series recently. Might check it out in the future. Meanwhile, I've got the second Big Hero 6 manga and the novelization waiting at the library for me. 🙂
@Ariel: Ah, thanks! I'll have to find it somehow.
I love the Kingdom series, too, Pev!
It's true that Anderson's stories have more sentiment in them, absolutely. But nonetheless, Big Claus and Little Claus had me in shock for a minute. 😆
Well, Big Claus had it coming, hadn't he?
I suppose. But it was slightly graphic.
*slightly*
So are, in their days, Grimm brothers.
I just read the story because you guys got me curious. Both men were terrible.
And that story reminded me of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (at least, I'm pretty sure it was that one...). Not directly, but untold riches and the tar at the bottom of the measure was also in that story.
