Okay i actually have prospect of working at a bookstore..... idk really any specs though.
the Beyonders series by Brandon Mull are a very gooood read. Yes, magic, I warn. Lots of a.... unique magic as well. The stories have a lot of great characters and morals. And it has a homeschooler as one of the main characters.

@Ariel Yes they made a film a couple years ago and Jeff Bridges plays "The Giver." The books are very interesting. I'm on the third one now.

Since Friday was Hobbit Day, I decided I'd read TH since it's been at least a couple years. Just finished. And am thoroughly shocked to (re-)learn that Fili is the youngest (I assume Tolkien changed this later?), Bofur and Bombur are brothers and Bifur is their cousin (what?!), and that it was Dori who gave Bilbo a piggy-back in the goblin tunnels (for some reason, I thought it was Balin).

Oh yes. 🙂 Fun.

So I am looking for something good to plunge my nose into this fall.
A good exciting active but emotionally connecting series. Or more than one. Any suggestions?

On impulse I started and then finished a Melanie Dickerson book, The Princess Spy. It got more mushy in the romance department as it went on (also, those characters pick some seriously bad moments to think about how close the other person's lips are... when you're 10 feet away from a guy who would kill you if he knew you were there, your top priority should be the preservation of your life), but the story itself was interesting enough that I wasn't willing to put it down to go to bed. Warning for definitely alluded-to adult content though.

The Princess Spy isn't one of my favorites (although, props to it for being the only one I needed to Google the fairy tale), but it's still good.

I was going to pick up a Melanie Dickerson book after this chatter since it sounds up my alley, but it seems that there aren't any in my library system. Sometimes it's a bit tricky for books published by Christian only publishers to find their way into the library system unless they reach a certain popularity. My guess is it's a volume thing, lots of publishers, lots of books, limited time and resources to asses quality.

Again though, if that's your thing, Shannon Hale. Great author in that genera. She tends to either go with original stories that feel like they're based on fairy tales, but really aren't ("Princess Academy"!) or chooses fairy tales that are lesser known so you don't know where the plot's going ("Book of a Thousand Days", my personal favorite of her books).

I just finished the "The Dark is Rising" sequence, as suggested by Goofy clan. It's a well written series, worth a read, but it has some plot holes due to it being a good vs. evil story by an author who I could tell wasn't into organized religion.

I intend on trying out more Melanie Dickerson. Might have to check out Shannon Hale too. But not yet. Still got a lot of books to read and I just keep on accumulating. >.<

I read Leia The Princess of Alderaan. It is very good but like Bloodline has a sad ending (same author and is a Star Wars book with same main character)

AMAZING TBH. I am really getting connected to the characters, though the quality of the writing is medium and modern.

I am also reading the Wingfeather Saga again. if you have not read them, you have missed out. Greatly.

Started reading American Sniper, the autobiography of Chris Kyle. Not recommended due to strong language, inappropriate actions, drinking, and likely war violence to come (I'm only a couple chapters in thus far).

@KnightOfNarnia: Were Leia, Princess of Alderaan and Bloodline clean? I'd like to read them, but I don't know what to expect.

Jaygee if there was swearing it was so minimum that I forgot about it. Its rare scenes of violence were not very graphic. Romance and such is kissing only. Bloodline has political intrigue and Leia, Princess of Alderaan has one or two refrences to meditation and astrology (not Leia but a side caracter). Hope this answers your question as I am not 100% sure what you meant by "clean"
