I think it's likely the Four would have at least chosen a regent in the event of catastrophe. Since he's the only lord named, Peridan is a possibility, though not necessarily a probability. If they didn't choose a regent though, I imagine the council would have set one up at the very least as a temporary measure.
I personally don't like the idea of Corin being anything other than a (mostly) carefree, untamed prince and boxing champion. And while, yes, Archenlanders are blood descendents of Frank and Helen, I don't think they'd really use that as a reason to ascend to the Narnian throne any more than the Calormenes would (at least not in the time of Lune and Cor). By this time in history, Narnia and Archenland are their own, separate nations. And the Narnians wouldn't necessarily look to Archenland for a king since, as Peridan's presence proves, there are again men in Narnia.

That's true about Narnia having men and not looking to Archenland. I agree with you about Corin; I'd just read that somewhere. I think he would not make a good king. He seems a bit too... irresponsible.

Corin would have calmed down some as he matured and he would still have responsibilities as a prince, so in theory, he probably would have been responsible enough for the job, but I don't think he'd do swimmingly under pressure. He was born to be impetuous and free as a bird. 🙂

And, of course, he didn't want to be a king!

Indeed, that is all-important. 😛 Though if he didn't have a choice (as he didn't before Cor returned), then he'd have to be one whether he wanted it or not. 🙂

Also, in favor of Corin being a conceivable possibility, the Four meant a lot to him. Especially Queen Susan, as seen in her statements to Shasta-who-she-thought-was-Corin about them being such good friends since his mother died, and in his willingness to pick fights with Calormens when they made bad jokes about her. I could see him being willing to try being responsible as a favor to his lost friend.

For some reason I always though there was a council also Tumnus was appointed regent (who knows maybe just stayed their good friend)

But I'm not sure whatever happened after that, I'm sure the animals tried to govern themselves, but being only Narnians and not a son of adam fell into disorder. Or maybe they had a succesion of lesser kings or lords afterwards... maybe they prospered for a bit (though one sometimes get caught in what was and "remember the good ol' days" ) maybe men grew wicked and took the place of the old kings by force and so it destablized. Perhaps the Narnians decided they could rule themselves or would rather rule themselves.

All I could think of was what Aslan says "And in Telmar their descendants lived and became a fierce and proud people; and after many generations there was a famine in Telmar and they invaded Narnia, which
was then in some disorder (but that also would be a long story), and conquered it and
ruled it. Do you mark all this well, King Caspian?"

Aside from the son-of-Adam rule, I really do like the idea of a kind of Council of the Species as an interim option. If you have the commonsense of a Raven, the memory of a Badger, the foresight of a Centaur, and insert other races with planning-and-governing useful skills to make plans and take votes, then assuming that the rest of Narnia would be willing to accept their rulings you might be able to get something like a good government, yes? Besides, with the timeskip effects of having some of the most adamant members of the resistance against the White Witch getting un-stoned at the beginning of the Pevensies' reign, you basically have multiple Captain Ameri--er, Narnias running around. 😉

I could see that happening. Perhaps such a set-up could even lead to something like democracy if it's around for long enough -- something I'm sure the Calormenes would consider scandalous! 🙂
