@gyps: because it's both incredibly cheesy (pass the nachos, please!) and because it's a non-canon pairing. I don't just mean that it's a romance with a character that never existed prior to the movie, I mean it's so contrary to Tolkien's world. Human/Elf only ever happened twice in all of Middle-earth history. Dwarf/Elf never did. As it is, Elves and Dwarves didn't get along much between the... I wanna say the Second Alliance and the friendship of Legolas and Gimli (argument could be made for pre-Hobbit relations between Thranduil and Thror, but both were pretty greedy jerks).
