They probably used those shots to remind us what he really found in the goblin caves. Plus, we all know what a great tool the ring is in this journey. Plus we see the importance Bilbo attributes to it.

@Ajjie: I'm wondering about Mirkwood in general. It's entirely possible that all the shots of Legolas and Tauriel fighting spiders are in a different part of the movie (maybe Dol Guldur?), but now I'm starting to wonder if they're going to help Bilbo rescue the Dwarves.

@Ajjie I don't think the boat was lent to them by the elves, because if it was then what would be the point of the barrels? Those scenes with Thranduil saying "I offer you my help" and then switching to Dwalin and Thorin don't have to do with the same thing. Actually the dwarves I am sure will be locked up because, supposedly Thranduil offers his help only if the dwarves will give some of the treasure, Thorin disagrees and then they are thrown in prison. Also Evangeline Lilly (Tauriel) had once stated a line in elvish that translated to be "the cells are empty" So I am pretty confident they will be put in cells 🙂

Also about Lego/Tauriel romance, I'm not sure about it but to me it seems like its a one way thing that Legolas has for Tauriel. Evangeline Lilly claims Tauriel will have have a love story that motivates her actions and drives her. Now some seem to believe Tauriel is in love with Thranduil >.< Also a one-sided love interest. Or her "love" died or is someone else we may not even know.

Ariel the spiders are confusing, but in the trailer it does show Bilbo creeping up on the spiders and you can see dwarves all wrapped up in spiderwebs hanging in the trees 🙂 But I am sure some of the spiders will be killed by Tauriel and Legolas, not sure about rescuing the dwarves though.

Yeah, trailers can be SO deceiving! SO CRAZY!

I didn't know it was Bilbo speaking at the beginning of the trailer either! (Until it went on further!) 😉

I think the part where the ring is on the ground must be in Mirkwood and the ring decides to fall off of him.

Yes they can, but that's what they want right? 😛

Heh, I thought it sounded like him, but I guess a lot of people didn't 😛

Yes it is in Mirkwood 🙂 If you remember the AUJ trailers there is a scene that Bilbo looks back and the ring is lying on the ground (in mirkwood) So I am sure it correlates with the scene is this trailer, and his facial expression to me looks lke he thought he would never see it again, and is relieved to have found it.

Okay, that makes sense. I guess I read it as them asking the elves for help, the elves lending them the boat (with the questioning of whether this is a good idea to trust elvish aid), the elves changing their minds and turning on them, them escaping from an elvish chase and (for some reason or other resulting from the elvish treachery) their abandoning the boat for the barrels. But your version makes sense and I hope is right, since I don't mind subtle changes but would like the overall elf capture-escape story to be fairly close to the book. I know you've watched the trailer a million times more than me, so I trust you 😉

I kind of like it when trailers are deceiving, because there's nothing worse than a trailer that gives away the whole story before you see it ;).

Once a daughter of Eve. Now a daughter of the Second Adam.

Okay, so here are my thoughts. I had written this up about two pages back, and then my post didn't go through and I didn't have the heart to rewrite it at the time. So now you finally get to read it. 😛

My thoughts were that the two scenes (Thrand offering help, and the dwarves in the boat) were completely separate and they were just pieced together like that for the trailer. I think Thrand was offering his help in hopes that the dwarves would tell the secret of their quest, or give him a share of the treasure. The dwarves of course will refuse this and be thrown in dungeon, and it follows the rest of the story. I think the boat has to be from Laketown. Perhaps in this scene they are speaking of the Master of Laketown? Or Bard?
Just some of my thoughts. 🙂

😀
Yes, I think your right the boat does have to do with Laketown. And my guess would be that they are speaking of Bard, because I have seen shots of Bard steering a boat carrying the company 🙂

Oh I forgot to put this up yesterday, Denny's is holding a contest for any who would like a free trip to the DoS premiere!

(This is from The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Annual 2014).

What do you think?

He's... got a grown-out Woverine beard... and MacGyver hair... and potentially that awkward Tumnus-strip-of-hair-down-the-back.
But at any rate. I would not want to run into him in a dark alley, though I'd probably be cool with him feeding me biscuits and honey. 😀

I saw that this morning...and I screamed...with horror. That is NOT what I pictured Beorn to look like. I don't like it. Definitely not fond about the weird beard.

I agree, his look isn't really what I would have preferred. :/

I think Beorn should have had more of a mountain man type look rather then mostly werewolf. I get the whole bear like thing, but this is beyond bear-like. Even him as a bear looks more like warg 😛 I guess I'll have to wait to see him on screen before passing I-like-him-or-not judgment 😉 But I agree Ariel, wouldn't want to run into him in a dark alley.
