I'm getting so excited, and sad, and already feeling disappointed a bit because I know it's not going to be like the books. But I'll still go see it and enjoy it! 🙂

I can't wait to hear Billy Boyd sing. 😀

Yup, yup, totally, and absolutely. 😀
Also... Thranduil's armour. And Elrond's. (A Lego set shows Elrond and Galadriel vs Cumbermancer.) If nothing else, I'll be fangirling all over those. And Bilbo. And Balin.

Sooooo I watched the ee. I can probably get around to more of it later but for now I'll say:

Much more Beorn! And the scene where Gandalf introduces them two by two is in, boy was I surprised but very pleased indeed.
Mirkwood has been greatly extended.
Lots of Thrain, some scenes changed dramatically with his addition.
More Laketown/Master.
Also a scene with Bilbo which is quite poignant regarding Thorin.
Bits of scenes here and there as well.

Also it's mentioned that Smaug and the Necromancer are actually in league - I'm wondering how this will go.

So yeah, just finished it actually.

@Ariel and Engee: I think the ee is a better version of the film in some ways. More time with Beorn and Mirkwood are a plus for sure.

*EE SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS*

The introductions scene was done rather well (so very like the book!), in my opinion, and it should have been included in the theatrical version. It's interesting how they made it work, though I suppose this goes with most of what has been extended - some small scenes were removed to make it flow better such as Beorn walking in and Bilbo being startled.
Before the company sets out Beorn and Gandalf talk amongst themselves about the Necromancer and his alliance with the orcs. This scene also includes shots of the witch king being buried in the High Fells.

Mirkwood has been greatly extended. There was the company crossing the stream, a white stag that Thorin tries to shoot and misses (Bilbo tells him "You shouldn't have done that. It's bad luck." To which he replies "I don't believe in luck We make our own luck") , Bombur falling into the water, the dwarves actually getting off of the path (as Bilbo mentions to them in his delirium), and many other parts. It's edited in a way that might make you feel as dizzy as the dwarves.

Lots of Thrain starting from the prologue. We see the battle at Moria as Thorin talks with his father about fighting alongside him (this happening after Thror was killed). When Gandalf goes to Dol Guldur he finds Thrain (who tries to kill him) and takes him out of his crazed state. Thrain tells him much about what has been happening with the Necromancer and leads him around Dol Guldur. He doesn't like that Gandalf sent Thorin on the quest for Erebor. He asks Gandalf to tell Thorin he loves him before being killed (taken into the darkness) by the Necromancer.

The Master is even more wary of Bard as shown by the many new scenes, (including a gross eating scene, bleh). They show the Master's plan of getting the people to like him more by welcoming the King Under the Mountain. Also, the four dwarves who were left behind approach him after the rest of the company heads off. They ask for help but he refuses.

The scene of Bilbo regarding Thorin:
After Thorin made the promise of making Laketown prosperous as it once was, Alfrid doubts his word.
Alfrid: Why should we take you at your word, eh? We don't know nothing about you. Who here can vouch for your character?

After quite a pause Bilbo raises his hand in a most Bilbo-ish way.

Bilbo: Me. I'll vouch for him. Now, I have travelled far with these dwarves through great danger, and if Thorin Oakenshield gives his word, then he will keep it.
Poor Bilbo doesn't know what's going to happen. 🙁

I think that might be it since nothing more is coming to mind right now.

Ooh...this is exciting. Though I'm slightly perplexed by the fact that it requires and extended edition to include some key book scenes. You'd kinda expect it to be the other way around - that the standard movie be faithful to the book and the extended edition have additional non-cannon scenes 😛

Once a daughter of Eve. Now a daughter of the Second Adam.
