Where be the spoilers? I love the song but I was reading it to find spoilers.
I said slight because it contains potential book spoilers. π
I just tried Ela's link; that video has been taken down. So here's another (complete with some pictures, some of which we've seen, others not). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRGTHLNNEOc YouTube is not affiliated with TLC, 'ware the witch -- I mean... dragons. π
Aww, feels....
Ela- Why does Legolas' presence in The Hobbit bother you more than Tauriel's? Her presence bothers me much more, because she is obviously not a Tolkien creation and he did not focus on female characters very often in The Hobbit or LOTRs (except Eowyn). Legolas would have been alive during the time of The Hobbit and he would be living in Mirkwood. However, I agree, he's not in the story and shouldn't be in it. But it doesn't really bother me compared to all the other changes in the story, including Tauriel.
Thanks for posting the lyrics to The Last Goodbye- I love them!
Ariel (sidenote)- Love your signature!
@Anne: While I would rather have no Tauriel and only a cameo appearance of Legolas I've found, as things stand now, that Legolas seems more 'forced' - for lack of a better word - into the storyline than Tauriel. His presence, at times, makes me wince (or laugh) because of the weak lines he's given and the way he delivers them - the majority of his scenes are like that. (Not to say that some of Tauriel's moments don't: the *cough* glowing sequence *cough* amongst others). I know he is supposed to 'change' over the course of the film's narrative but it's only another unnecessary character to develop when we can see a change in LotR. Also, the addition of his Bolg scene is too long and drawn out (why on earth does he need someone to fight? We'll only find out in the next instalment).
Yes, Tauriel is unnecessary, yes, the Kili/Tauriel 'romance' is ridiculous (though Eria has convinced me that their relationship is platonic - hopefully it will stay that way (I have my doubts)), but I still find myself disliking more of what Legolas does/says than she.
Overall, it's not necessarily which one I approve of but which one I dislike less, which happens to be Tauriel. This very well may change after I watch BoFA. These are just my opinions so feel free to disagree. π
I see your point and it makes a lot of sense. He is a very forced part of the story. Whereas, since Tauriel is new she is easier to fit in and make it seem "natural," if that's what you want to say. It's not that Tauriel is actually that terrible of a character, but her presence and the "romance" that is going on really annoys me. Thanks for explaining that, though, you did a good job and I understand what you mean.
@Anne: Yes, that's basically it. π I'd rather remember Legolas as he is in LotR than how he has become in TH, if you understand my meaning. Anyway, I have a feeling the 'romance' will escalate (by reading possible spoilers - yes, I am a very bad hobbit) so I am very unhappy about that and I think her inclusion will irk me more for the next film.
As for some happy (or sad) news, there is an official music video for "The Last Goodbye."

@Eria- Yes, speculating about the last film makes me really imagine that Tauriel will be a great nuisance in this film.......It's okay to read spoilers, I do it too π (Did you read about the war goats and the moles?)
@Anne: Same for me. π Well, personally, I don't like to read spoilers but alas! I am much too weak to withhold from such things. Yes, there has also been mention of worms! Makes me wonder where this is all going.
I read that the auction scene is in which makes me happy π (can't say it's absolutely true since it's merely a rumour). That doesn't mean that my spirits are particularly high for this film but while my expectations are very low my anticipation is rising right now (a good thing indeed!).
Other people are finding out spoilers and I'm not? Man, I must be slacking. π
I've been reading some more spoilers to prepare myself for the worst - now I know I will greatly dislike the presence of both Tauriel and Legolas. *sigh*
Still, I'm looking forward to the film which is in about two weeks (time has gone by fast)! π
@Elanor: oh no! what kind of stuff are you reading?!
*SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS*
Turn away now if you wish not to be spoiled!
Go back now!!
Last chance!
From what I've read about Tauriel and Legolas:
Kili dies trying to defend Tauriel. Tauriel says something to Thranduil like, βTake away love because it hurts,β to which he responds something like, βBecause it was real.β Legolas has much more screen time than I was hoping.
I haven't read much anything else... *Is preparing for the worst concerning those two elves*
But there are some things I stumbled across accidentally such as:
Bilbo does indeed get knocked out in the battle. Fili has more lines than he had in DoS (I wonder how many of them consist of "Kili!" :P). There are to be giant worms. Radagast and Beorn have little screen time. Legolas talks about his mother.
That is all I have read. (No more spoilers for me!)
@ Ela All I have to say is: UGH!
*insert Darth Vader "NOOOOOOOOO!!"*
*insert upset fanmail to PJ*
And yet I still wanna see it. Thranduil and Elrond's armour had better be worth it! π I kid, I kid. Though, seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing both sets of armour in action.
