Yessssssssss!
So at work, we have two enormous outdoor umbrellas. The first one has just a small, circular stand. The second one has a huge iron base. It's got wheels on it, cuz it's just that hard to move. It's probably a good 100 or more pounds. And it has cupholders in it.
When we set up double lane drive-thru the smaller umbrella stand goes on the first lane. We have three moveable posts that we can put a chain through and create a barrier with, and we use that to separate the lanes. We stick the huge umbrella stand on the other side of this barrier, and then we put two more of the post things around it and create kind of life a cage for the second lane person to stand in. We use ipads to stand underneath and take orders in the drive-thru.
And guess what happened!
What? 😯
We were reaching a slow spot, and my friend taking orders was on her last car. My lane was clear. The wind kicked up, picked up the cones and chains, caught her umbrella, TANGLED HER UP IN THEM, and THREW her across the hood of the guys car. She end up falling UNDER the car! I started towards her and realized I might've just avoided getting clubbed in the head, because MY umbrella flew OVER MY HEAD and went tumbling down the street. The girl who was a little ways away from me and Mary Poppins on outside register left the register and went charging after the umbrellas. She and girl two started pulling them down as fast as was possible, while I called from emergency response from the manager's inside. At the same time I hurried to the register to take the cash of a gentleman who had stopped half-way to the register and was getting out to offer assistance. The guy whose car got girl tossed across it was alright, although his hood was badly and noticeably scratched. My manager came flying outside to what looked like the aftermath of a tornado. At this point the girls had regained the IPads and were taking orders again, so that we could have things moving again. When the girl who had been on register was finished with an order, she rushed over to me and handed me the IPad and retook her spot.
Mary Poppins wasn't hurt, though they filed an incident reporter for her in case of an injury she hadn't noticed yet. The poor guy whose car had been damaged was chill, really upset that Mary had gotten hurt, and we gave him his meal for free. He didn't even really care about the damage done. He was really good to us. He could've been SO MAD.
After a brief discussion with one of the managers, we sent Mary inside for recovery. In the meantime, I was in shock and started overheating without my umbrella and I started getting dizzy and my IPad overheated. They sent someone out to replace me.
The manager for today was commenting how impressed she was about how I was able to remain cheerful and calm the whole time 😛
