@Gyps: It's a case in German used when there is an indirect object in the sentence. 🙂 So instead of saying the equivalent of "to/for him or her", one would use this case. It has been tricksy stuff, especially when we only spent thirty minutes on it. I'm getting it now, though. Whew!
