Root Beer is almost exclusively an American thing. My German prof, who grew up in Germany, never had it because it isn't something one can simply buy in europe. So, when she came to the states she tried it and hated the it and still can't understand how people could like it. It really must be an aquired taste. I don't think I could stomach it now, but then I haven't had any soft drinks for years.
