Bilbo Baggins has left the Shire, leaving everything, including the Ring, to Frodo. But it is years before Gandalf tells Frodo the history of the Ring and advises him also to leave the Shire. The hobbits Frodo, Sam Gamgee, and Pippin Took journey south, and are chased by mysterious black-cloaked Riders before meeting up with Merry Brandybuck. When Gandalf doesn’t arrive as promised, they leave the Shire and travel through the Old Woods before meeting up with a man named Aragorn (although they call him Strider). Aragorn leads them toward Rivendell, but one night as they camp at a mountain called Weathertop, they are attacked by Black Riders and Frodo is wounded by a magical Morgul Blade. They hurry toward Rivendell, meeting with an elf name Glorfindel. Frodo is chased by Black Riders to the ford, but the Riders are swept away in a sudden flood.
