Here is part of "What is Her Secret?".
Kili took the stone back from Tauriel. "I hope the stone doesn't... do anything... you know, bad to you." He looked at the stone and then back at her. "...Nothing bad like changing your hair."
"My hair?" asked Tauriel, raising her eyebrows at Kili questioningly.
"Yeah," said Kili. "It's nice. Especially the way you comb it." He grinned at Tauriel.
"Thankyou." said Tauriel. "I like your hair too." She grinned back and the dwarf.
"Really?" asked Kili, beaming. Tauriel nodded, so Kili continued. "My hair is just normal dwarvish hair. I could never braid my hair like the elfs do. You are really good at braiding your hair."
Tauriel blew off his compliment by saying, "All elfs braid their hair well." She looked at his hair thoughtfully for a moment. "I do not believe and elvish hair style would suit you, dwarf."
Kili just kept grinning. "I think a dwarvish braid would become your hair." He reached through the bars of the prison and fingered a long strand of Tauriel's hair.
Tauriel eyed him for a moment. "Then do one." she ordered. She turned her back to the prison door so that Kili could reach through and braid her hair.
Kili hesitated for a moment. Then he began to braid her hair dwarvishly. "I'm not very fast though." he warned her. "Elfs are definitely faster than dwarfs. I don't even understand how elfs can braid their hair so fast!"
"I can show you how, dwarf." said Legolas, as he descended the steps. He stood beside the two of them and looked down at Kili as Kili braided Tauriel's hair.
Kili finished Tauriel's hair and she stood up. "Does it look good?" she asked Legolas, twirling around so he could see the whole braid.
Legolas stuttered. "Um-I-er-yeah, it does!" he finally said, recollecting his elvish dignity. "Anything looks good on your hair. Yeah... Can I try?"
"Of course." said Tauriel. She turned her back to Legolas so that he could braid her hair.
Legolas undid Kili's braid. "I know this braid." he said intelligently. He went on to explain the braid and where it came from and who came up with it.
Kili and Tauriel looked impressed. "Wow," said Kili. "I didn't even know that."
Legolas smiled proudly and then looked down at Tauriel's hair. "Now this is how you braid hair like an elf." And what to Kili's wondering eyes did appear but a fancy elvish braid in only about ten seconds.
Kili gawked. Tauriel spun around to show off the beautiful hairstyle. Then she said, "Let me try it on your hair, Legolas." Legolas turned around and Tauriel unbraided and braided his hair in a different elvish hairstyle in a shorter time than Legolas had taken to only braid her hair.
Kili gawked for a moment and then began to applaud.
Tauriel bowed slightly and grinned. She looked at Legolas who was staring at her with a sort of pained expression on his face. "What?" she asked him. "Did I pull your hair?"
"No." said Legolas. "You are just really fast, that's all." He turned and walked back up the steps. When he was out of hearing range he whispered to himself, "Faster than me... too fast."
Tauriel sat down beside Kili who stopped applauding so he could talk. "You're fast!" he exclaimed.
Tauriel smiled cooly. "We are both fast," she said modestly.
"I would like to learn how to do that!" said Kili.
"I promise to teach you one day." Tauriel promised with a smile.
"I would like that." said Kili with another big smile.
"Tauriel!" called Legolas from the top of the stairs.
"I've got to go. Maybe I can teach you tomorrow." said Tauriel, standing up and hurrying up the stairs. She caught up with Legolas and they walked together up the stairs.
"Why does the dwarf look at you so?" Legolas asked Tauriel.
"Who can know?" said Tauriel, grinning to herself. "Maybe he admires my hair braiding skills."
Legolas turned his head so she wouldn't see him frowning. She was way faster at braiding than him and she totally showed him up in front of that dwarf. He looked at her again, regaining his soft, unreadable expression.
"He is tall for a dwarf." said Tauriel abstractedly. She was thinking... perhaps an Elvish braid would look good on him since he was no runt like the other dwarfs.
"Taller than some..." said Legolas, still jealous of Tauriel's hair skills. "...but no less ugly. Dwarf hair is always so greasy while my hair- and yours, of course- is so silky and clean."
"Because you are always in our hair, you would know." said Tauriel with a glare at him. She hurried past him and up the stairs quickly.
Legolas's jaw dropped and he stared after her. Then he hurried after her. "What is her secret?" he asked himself.
Please excuse the typos... Sorry it's so horribly written. 😛 It's hard to turn something so serious into something funny.
My second fanfiction is a bit funnier. It is called "Why is She Like That?"
