The olive oil (you can also use mayo) suffocates the lice. You rub it onto your scalp, then tie it up tight, and wait for many, many, many, many, hours. Then you take it out and wash your hair with lice poison/special shampoo. You then have to check your hair everyday for two weeks. (I'm assuming you keep using the special shampoo. And if you are really unlucky you might have to do the whole things again. 🙁
