Mr. Tumnus’ House Key Craft

Make a replica of Mr. Tumnus’ house key from the 2005 film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Here are our reference images from the Crafting of Narnia book by Weta Workshop.

Materials:

  • craft foam
  • cake pop stick
  • glue
  • gold paint
  • ball point pen
  • printer
  • paper
  • scissors

Steps

  1. Print the key pattern onto a piece of paper and cut out the pieces.
  2. Trace and cut the shapes from craft foam.
  3. Using a ball point pen or small stylus, emboss the outward-facing leaves with veins and Mr. Tumnus’ initial–or your own. (Full disclosure: I used my Cricut machine to cut some guidelines before pressing the pen in, but it makes the design less dimensional. Using a pen or stylus may result in a slightly different look.)
  4. Cut your stick to 3 1/2 inches.
  5. Glue the handle of the key together as shown. Let dry.
  6. Cut a strip of printer paper about 1/4 inch wide by two inches long. Apply glue and wrap this piece around the stick about one inch from the end. Let dry.
  7. Glue the final piece of foam to the end of the stick.
  8. Paint gold. Re-emboss the design if needed.
  9. Enjoy displaying your key!
